🥶🥶🥶 👁‍🗨 “Y’all knew I was gonna shoot a logo three for the record, come on now.” – #CaitlinClark #ForTheWin ❓Who is Caitlin Clark? ✅ She’s the star of #NCAA college basketball that has drawn national attention to the #sport and toppled records in the process. ✅ She’s also the recipient of numerous awards that speak to her impressive skill such as the Collegiate Woman #StudentAthlete of the Year and the Associated Press’ National Player of the Year. ✅ She’s Iowa’s very own who has amassed #basketball fans of all ages and backgrounds, responsible for a commonality that connects so many — love for Clark. #morethanagame ‼️That’s just some of the answers you can expect to get in response. Here Are The Top 10 Sports W/The Largest Increase in Participation 2015-2022 🥒🎾 💡Team Sports Have Only Partially Recovered From The Large Drop Sustained During The Pandemic — But Many Individual And Racquet Sports Took Off. Learn more below: 🏸 Racquet sports are up rn 🔥, with participation rising at least 20% among every generation since 2019 📈 🥒🎾 Pickleball’s 159% increase is so large that including it in the scatter plot renders the rest of the chart unreadable (swipe to see the zoomed-in version ➡️) 🎾 Tennis’s base is nearly 3x as large as pickleball’s. In fact, tennis added approximately 6 million new participants since 2019, slightly more than the 5.5 million gained by its up-and-coming rival racquet sport 🏓 🎿 Enthusiasm has also increased since 2019 for outdoor fitness activities such as bicycling 🚴 (+11% over the past three years), walking 🚶 (+3%) and hiking 🥾 (+20%), as well as conditioning exercises that can be done at home, such as yoga (+10%) and pilates (+12%) 🧘 ⚽️ School teams and rec sports leagues shut down during 2020, and many players failed to return. SFIA CEO Tom Cove writes in a report that “team sports’ recovery has been driven by casual participants.” Indeed, while total participation bounced back to 23.2% in 2022—nearly equal the 2019 level of 23.4%—core participation (number of frequent players) decreased for every single team sport that the SFIA tracks other than outdoor soccer 📉 🏀 The only other team sport to emerge from the pandemic unscathed is basketball, which experienced a +34% explosion in casual players since 2019 ⛳️ Although folks are only hitting the links slightly more often, driving ranges and similar golf entertainment venues took off during the pandemic after several years on the rise 🏌️‍♂️ 🎮 In general, socially distanced sports that used health and safety concerns as a slingshot for growth continue to be popular. It is difficult to change people’s habits once they are set... or in this case re-set by the pandemic 😷🏒 🗯 Feel free to Like. Comment.
