Most of my day was spent mentally troubleshooting how I was going to continue my journey south. I sat in this exact mess and went through almost every scenario imaginable. I never changed from my pajamas, I only put more clothes on. I also never left the boat; even though I was tied to a dock. It was 43° and rainy all day.

Wind and fog were dense throughout the day but the alternator was fixed. I was having a wonderful sail until the wind died off and then turned on the engine. I had gone about 2 hours when the engine suddenly stopped. I mean, full on, nothing. I tried everything and did a full examination while I waited for Towboat to come get me. What I found: my starter solenoid cracked off the starter. when i got to the starter i saw a solid dent, and when i took the starter completely off, well, photo number 3 will display the rod completely out the side of the block. in other words, my engine blew up.

Attempting to fix the alternator in dash I came across some incredibly kind fishermen. A few had even come by to look at the engine and assess what was happening. One of the guys offered up his truck for me to use the next day after spending yesterday afternoon trying to track down a solution with me in the passenger seat. This was the first time in a long while I saw the trees change color while driving back roads. Thank you Cody. Your kindness and generousity it’s is still very much appreciated and passed along to others.

I came into a fishing village with alternator problems. I knew the jump further south was going to require everything to be in tip top shape. What felt like my last opportunity to really make sure i had everything in order i opted for a shorter day on the water to the closest town. I encountered so many helpful and encouraging people the next few days here. 🤍

I sailed south to Portland, ME and met up with my first camping neighbors that I had met earlier that August. Turned out there weren’t any docks or public anchorages so I ended up dropping anchor outside of a really kind lady’s house, kayaking to her beach, walking through her yard, and asking where the nearest diesel station was my friends could take me to. We had a bit of an adventure but I will say the local dive bar had an amazing burger and fries! 🍔🍟

looked a lot like this. lots of fog to start but bright sun for the majority of the day. I stopped in hopes to find diesel at a small marina but it turned out the building burned down 3 days prior. I continued my journey south and ate provisioned food. happy to be on the water, even if it meant running the motor. ⛵️

Three years ago, September 30, 2023, dash and I left Maine for some warmer weather, sunshine, and a dream of never stopping. Having very little knowledge about sailing I quite literally dove in head first and zero hesitation. What I did know, was that I was all in.

This video is from the very first moment I turned around in dash to see where exactly we were for the prior 6 weeks in order to be ready for the pivotal time of this very departure. It may not seem like much, but its simplicity speaks volumes. I know now what I was in for, and how incredibly challenging the coming weeks and months were, and what they mean now.

The next few months I will be tediously going through that journey, so that, yes, it will be out in the world in the way it’s intended to be. I hope you’re along for the ride, or at least curious about what’s to come! I can’t wait to share 🩵
