Year 38. 12/21. — If you know me, you know birthdays are my favorite holiday. Whether it’s my birthday or someone else’s. Life is a gift that should be celebrated in big, small, and meaningful ways. Especially now, especially because we are not promised another year, month, week, day, or minute. None of that is lost on me.

My birthday isn’t solely a celebration for me, though. It’s about intentional reflection, and a chance to celebrate the people who have made this life worth living, who have held me through every stage of it thus far. Through their gracious words, continuous generosity, kindness, care, love, support, and advice, I am fortunate to see 38. I wouldn’t be here without them. I wouldn’t be me without them.

Deeply appreciative for every sweet birthday card, call, text, gift, and sentiment shared with me yesterday. More love. More life. More everything good, peaceful, and beautiful. by @mtothe_ila

Two years ago today, I lost my dad unexpectedly.

Thank you, @suetsai and @anthologytattoos for helping me to honor him in such a beautiful and meaningful way.

I knew no one else could execute this but the incomparable @anthologytattoos. Thank you for being you, thank you for your skill, for your patience, for your listening ear, for your humor, for your aura. — Truly a one of a kind human being. Endlessly grateful. You are immensely appreciated.

Dad, I still can’t believe I can’t call you. I still can’t fathom you’re gone. I still can’t believe I’ll never hear your laugh again in this life, because it always made me laugh. What I would give to dance around to “Little Wing” or “Free Bird” one more time with you. My only solace is knowing you and mom are reunited.
