Engineering beyond the classroom! ⚙️🏭 Our MESA students visited Ormco’s Pomona facility for an inside look at engineering and medical device manufacturing this past Friday! Thank you to Emil and the Ormco/Envista team for welcoming us, and a special thank-you to our panelists, Yolanda, Dennis, William, and Taro, for sharing your experiences, insights, and advice with our future STEM professionals. ♥️ Here’s a look at our day: 🦺 Welcome and safety briefing. 🦷 Introduction to orthodontics and Ormco. 🤖 Spark Aligner manufacturing tour highlighting automation (no pics allowed 👀) ⚙️ Ormco brackets manufacturing tour exploring process control. 🍽️ “Food for Thought” panel discussion and lunch. 🔬 A look at engineers’ roles in medical device design control, including cross-functional teamwork and the tools they use. This visit connected classroom learning with real-world applications and helped students explore possibilities for their STEM futures. Our first Calculus I & II Study Jam of the semester is officially in the books! ➗➕➖🟰✖️ Students came together to work through problems, ask questions, connect with peers, and prepare for upcoming exams with support from faculty, MESA tutors, and one another. Since its establishment by Congress in 1986, the Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation has supported promising young scientists, engineers, and mathematicians through its scholarship program. To celebrate its 40th anniversary and advance its mission of encouraging undergraduate students to pursue research careers, the Foundation is launching the Goldwater Summer Research Internship Program in summer 2027.
