Last night the Hornby Arts Centre hosted the launch of its Arts Council Donor Circle. Fortunately for this visitor Anne Ngan's Those Things We Don't See: 60 Years of Painting + Drawing is still up, and I was able to delight not only in the shifts and recurrences evident in Anne's practice, but also a recognition of area landscapes that are dear to me, such as the two Downes Point paintings on my right. @hornbyarts by @mtwebsit

The house that Jack and Doug and Doris designed, beginning in 1969, and then the add-ons -- Jack's painting studio (bottom-right), the new kitchen, the veranda... I've been coming here for over 25 years, and every time feels like the first time. My last visit was February-March, 2018, to write my Masters thesis -- Course Language: How the Reader is Encouraged to Collaborate on Our Seminar and Pass Me. It's Scott's home now, he arrives today. Fresh snapper for dinner, before or after the Art Centre's cocktail party, we haven't decided. by @mtwebsit

Left Galiano yesterday on the 6:30 am ferry for Swartz Bay, the Malahat, Duncan, Ladysmith, Nanaimo, eventually to Buckely Bay, where, after two EV quick charges, we caught the 2:30 pm to Denman, then the 3:40 pm to Hornby for a final charge at the ever-expanding (deforesting) Co-op gas bar before arriving at Downes Point at 5:30 pm for a deliciously slow supper and, finally, a 9 pm walk to one of my most favourite places on earth. by @mtwebsit

To mark the month-long run of Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey at the Park Theatre (opening this Thursday), we have selected excerpts from Homer's epic for the July edition of ParkLit. Pictured is N.C. This Sunday at 6:00pm I'll be opening for bill bissett (b.1939-) and Stephen Roxborough (with Jack Garton) at the Galiano Island Literary Festival. Side Two of Northern Birds in Color (note spelling) was recorded at the Poetree Society in London, UK and released on a C90 cassette in 1983. The album features poems from Sailor, Beyond Even Faithful Legends and Northern Birds in Color. I'll be reading from my recent collection, Playlist: A Profligacy of Your Least-Expected Poems (2024). @reave.dennison took us on a charming walk through his first photography book at @palefireprojects last night. Published by @infoofficeinc and Pale Fire Projects, Under 60 Tons focuses on Dennison's work in the Pacific Northwest marine trades. Annotating his black & white pictures are hand-written texts that speak of his experiences on tugs, barges and log booms, in addition to the machinery and procedures required of a skilled labourer for whom photography is both a passion and a witness. by @mtwebsit
