In Muay Thai, where aggression and damage are keys to victory, the ability to stay in control is often overlooked.

The desire to win,

To make your team proud,

To show the world who you are,

When so much is on the line, keeping a cool heart can be one of the hardest things to do.

In August 2023, I took on the biggest fight of my career at that point, and fell short. I walked away feeling like I had lost not because I wasn’t good enough, but because I simply didn’t do enough. I wished I could turn back time and do the fight over. That night, I made a vow to myself: I would never let that happen again. I would never feel like I failed myself again, no matter the cost.

For the next seven fights, I fought with gritted teeth and my heart on my sleeve, determined to prove that no one could make me back down. I pushed forward trying to finish everyone who stood in my way. And in all fairness, it worked.

It worked really well - until it didn’t.

October 2024, over a year removed from my last defeat, I faced a tough but less experienced opponent. At the first bell, I felt sharp and composed. But at the first sign of resistance, I reacted like a hothead, I tried harder. That led to frustration, which led to wasted effort, which led to more frustration - a never ending cycle of stupidity. I believed I was the better fighter, yet somehow victory still slipped through my fingers. Was my effort still not enough?

Upon reflection I knew this wasn’t the case, I really did give it my everything. Knowing that gave me a sense of pride. The issues of past had been beaten, but there was still more work to do.

A few days later, my coach introduced me to a Thai phrase: ‘Jai Yen’. It means “cool heart.” In Muay Thai, it refers to the ability to stay calm, to fight with control, not emotion, even under pressure. The moment I heard it, I knew this was the approach I needed going into my next bout.

From that point forward, I changed the way I trained, the way I thought, and the way I fought. I couldn’t have done it without the team around me, or the tough opponent standing in front of me. So thanks to all of you.

Fun opportunity to fight in Aus against one of their top boys in @corrigan__reece from @suay_muaythai . Lost on points, Reece and his team stuck to a great plan and came away with a win.

I've really got to knuckle down and fix some areas of my game to get to where I want to be, and that I will do. Whatever it takes.

Big thanks to Alex and all the Masda boys for bringing me and treating me like one of their own, had a banger of a trip with these guys 🙏🏻 by @muay_tyler_

Last boxing session before I go to Australia. Having Silviu with us at Sabaidee has been a game changer, how lucky are we to have someone so dedicated and knowledgeable. Truly one of the finest minds in combat.

The work isn't done yet, still got some more graft to put in with the rest of the team, but I just wanted to share my appreciation with everyone.

I can't wait to show what we've been working on. by @muay_tyler_

A little visit from Maria <3

Bummer that my flights home have been cancelled, I was looking forward to seeing everyone and doing a little work. I won't be back until September now, it's been a pain to sort out but we got there in the end.

I'm so grateful to have reasons to miss home. As much as it hurts to be so far away, it acts as a reminder as to why I have to make the most of my time here. I'll be back at Rajadamnern towards the end of July, and I'll showcase all the work I've been doing. by @muay_tyler_

Super fun experience fighting in the main event at Rajadamnern Stadium!

It was a close fight that I managed to edge my way to the win with knees and body kicks against my opponents boxing - proper back and forth fight. I was very harsh on myself after the fight as I wasn't totally happy with my performance at the time, but on rewatch I can say I'm content with the decision and proud of myself. I see where I won the fight, and I see where I need to improve. Plenty to take away from this which is great, I can't wait to get back to the gym to make myself better and fight again!

Thanks everyone for all the support, thanks to @powerhousephuket for sorting this out, and @muaythaitechnician for coming to Bangkok and cornering 🙏🏻 by @muay_tyler_
