Let me encourage you to slowly and intentionally read every slide. We live in a short form instant content world and it’s making us all dumber (I’m sorry for being so crass about it but I’m convinced it’s true). I even deleted two important slides cause it gets bogged down in the theology. All add it here in the captions. Do me a favor and if you have friends or family that are stressed and or nervous share this post with them. I pray it will encourage them and point them actionable steps we can take!

Scholar Daniel Tanner comments, “This demon’s purpose was to manipulate and control decisions coming out of the Persian court that affected the whole empire. This was relevant to Daniel because the Jewish people at this time were under the authority of Persia. If the demon could turn the hearts of the Persian rulers against Judah and/or influence them to pass laws and commands detrimental to the Jews, then this would th wart God’s program.”

I agree with Tanner on this point but disagree with his assertion earlier where he argues that this is purely sociopolitical and not geopolitical.

In my book, The Unseen Battle I write, “Tanners view is lacking on multiple levels. First, creating a sharp distinction between geographic and political is not practical. In other words, geography is associated with political motives. An empire with no land or geographical context to protect or a desire to expand is problematic. Second, Tanner does not seem to connect Deut 32:8-9 to the background of these fallen angels, whom he rightly identifies as demons. This is crucial in seeing the geographical allotment of nations and boundaries (Deut 32:8-9; 4:19-20). Third, the ANE background would understand the deity’s territoriality with land (Heiser, Unseen Realm, 116-17). The idea of the deity’s desire for territorial expansion is in view, not necessarily a deity’s exclusive limitation based on its territory and an inability to expand its power in terms of land and political influence.”

Well, The Unseen Battle is out in the world. Launch week was, well, a battle for me in seen and unseen ways. Typical. Nothing went the way I wanted it to. My Dad had to have triple bypass heart surgery and I flew to Dallas the day of book release. They had to do a valve replacement in additions to the triple bypass and the surgery got delayed because of the complexity. My flights got cancelled and delayed. We had organizational hiccups. Complications and issues I can’t event talk about.

But you know what is still true today? Christ is still victorious.
The dark powers are stripped of their ability to blind the nations. And the Gospel is still the best news anyone could ever hear.

I wrote The Unseen Battle for
- Christian’s to live in confidence and courage not fear and anxiety
- Pastors and ministry leaders to have a theological framework for their preaching and teaching in the area of Spiritual Warfare
- My kids so they would never be deceived by an enemy that absolutely hates them.

I wrote this for my kids:

“Liam, Levi, Lucas, and Emmy - I long for you to be captivated by Jesus, the one true God of heaven and carth. May you never be deceived by the false gods of the nations and always be enamored by the goodness of Yahweh.”

I long for this for you, friend. That you would be captivated by the truth of Christ. And that you would reject every lie of the enemy.
