Want to learn about this Pokémon sticker book?
⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️

Back in 2003, Pokémon was entering an entirely new generation. The original 151 had become 386, the Game Boy Advance was introducing players to Hoenn, and a little blue Pokémon named Mudkip was becoming one of the franchise’s newest faces.

On June 24, 2003, Japanese publisher Shogakukan released a tiny, 34-page sticker book called Pokémon Advanced Generation Anime Stickers: Pokédex Edition.
It wasn’t a trading card set, a magazine, or even a traditional Pokédex. It was essentially a pocket-sized collection of Pokémon artwork that kids were encouraged to peel out, arrange, and stick wherever they wanted.
And that’s what makes surviving complete copies interesting today. These books were made to be taken apart, not carefully preserved on a collector’s shelf.

Here’s something particularly cool: this book was released less than three weeks before the Japanese theatrical debut of Jirachi: Wish Maker on July 19, 2003.

Inside were more than ordinary character stickers. Shogakukan’s original catalog describes legendary Pokémon, special Jirachi emblem stickers, wishing-star stickers, movie poster stickers, and scenes from the upcoming film.

It was essentially a little piece of movie promotion that children could carry around in their pockets.

Twenty-three years later, an intact copy is a small surviving piece of that moment. by @mudkipcollector
