A d r e a m c o m e t r u e. This is a whole new experience for Guillermo and me. We’re used to plenty of dreaming, but not the coming true part. At the end of 2024 we bought this beautiful shell of stones that’s almost 300 years old. It’s an hour and a half drive north of Barcelona, not far from the French border, nestled in a small village that’s flanked by walnut groves on one side and woods and a river on the other.

Everything about buying and renovating this house was/is a massive challenge! Inside it’s just three open plan floors, no electricity, no plumbing, no straight lines, no nothing…yet. It’s a completely blank slate. A year has passed, and after a slow start we’re finally off! We’re on a tiny budget, so we’ll be doing some of the work ourselves and look forward to sharing that process. Any advice most welcome 🪚. As we slowly turn this place into our new home, we hope to stay as true to the nature of the building as possible, choosing materials like wood, marble and terracotta that form the backbone of traditional architecture here in the Mediterranean.

We’re so excited at the prospect of living out in the countryside, with a home pottery studio, an allotment and, at long last, a spacious kitchen where we can cook to our hearts’ content.

A Japanese inspired yunomi style cup, hot from the kiln! The small footring I trim into the base lifts it a touch from the table, giving it a light, weightless look. These cups hold around 175ml, so they’re perfect for black coffee, matcha, black tea, mulled wine, or why not for chocolate mousse or as holder for bread sticks?

Homemade salmorejo is on our table very often now that it’s proper hot. Salmorejo, from Cordoba in the south of Spain, is a denser version of gazpacho, made more substantial by the addition of bread.

Traditionally salmorejo is just tomatoes, bread and olive oil, but we blend 2 kg tomatoes, with a cucumber, a litttle red pepper, onion, a couple of slices of sourdough, a small clove of garlic and a squirt of sherry vinegar. Once fully blended and put through a mouli, we emulsify the soup with lots of fruity arbequina extra virgin oil. It’s like a cold, liquid salad, which is perfect when it’s scorchio outside.

These bowls are just the right size for a serving of salmorejo, vichyssoise, ice cream, cereal, or anything that deserves a beautiful bowl. Thrown one by one on the wheel in a sandy red clay and hand-dipped in my custom-formulated raw white glaze, they’re made to bring a little beauty to your everyday.

Bowls and my Japanese inspired yunomi cups are now back in my online shop.

I n s t a n t l o v e. Guillermo’s words to me after our first viewing of the house with the estate agent were “I like it too much”. We were so excited we were trembling and hardly slept that night. We didn’t dare to dream about a future in this house because we were sure someone else was going to claim this beauty before us. And so the anxiety continued for the four never-ending months it took us to work out if the buy was viable and to convince the bank to help us make this dream happen. We can’t thank enough the people that have supported and helped us get this far, in particular Enrique, Guillermo’s brother. Gracias.

We also really appreciate all the warm wishes on our post last week. Feeling very grateful. x

How do you manage to stay true to yourself here? Does it even matter these days? What do you do if you’re losing likes and followers? Where do your new ideas come from? What comes first, your art or your post? Is being honest viable in a context where noise and pretence gains so much traction?

We don’t provide quick fixes or magic formulas. Our priority is to learn, grow, push ourselves outside our comfort zone and do the best we can to offer beauty and meaning to you, the people who appreciate depth over distraction.

Although we haven’t created this content exclusively for this platform, it’s taken @asensiocomunicacio and me many hours to create. We’ve dreamt up the scenes, filmed on location, edited hours of material, composed music from scratch and cut it to fit the images, recorded a voiceover, created subtitles in two languages, created a vertical trailer from the horizontal images we’ve filmed, made a separate soundless trailer for our websites in two different formats - one to view on desktops another to view on mobile phones - we’ve written a text for our website to accompany the film, this text that you’re reading. None of that makes our post better than another, it’s simply information about all the work you don’t see.

If we were chasing numbers, our approach wouldn’t make sense. We understand how things work around here, but choose not to follow the friendly advice the platform provides. It doesn’t serve us either artistically or emotionally.

We’ve decided to go ahead and post this video today because we believe in what we do and refuse to let the algorithm push us around. We continue to create because something inside us compels us to do so. We will keep sharing, but on our own terms. Two humans, two creative minds, no AI.
