This is Kiss. She came in to the clinic as a late fall baby. I have been over wintering her and her roommate Pounce. Since it has been a very cold winter, they could not be soft released until this month. I will miss her so. Even though she is a wild animal, we got to know each other and have a connection, to her it might just be about food. To me it is a special kind of love. Here she is eating one of her favorite snacks, hibiscus leaves. I love her so much. Thank you @wildbirdfund for the opportunity. #squirrels #squirrellove #squirellfostermom #wildliferehabilitation taken in Upper West Side by @muffnjazz

Deep Purple written by pianist Peter DeRose, was published in 1933 as a piano composition. The following year, Paul Whiteman had it scored for his suave “big band” orchestra that was “making a lady out of jazz” in Whiteman’s phrase. “Deep Purple” became so popular in sheet music sales that Mitchell Parish added lyrics in 1938. Born on this day Sept 15 1924, the one and only Bobby Short. He was a pianist and cabaret singer who interpreted songs popular in the first half of the 20th century. Short also championed African-American composers of the same period. He began performing piano in dance halls and saloons, and as a busker, after leaving home at age 11 for Chicago with his mother’s permission. Short began his adult musical career in clubs in the 1940s. In 1968 he was offered a two-week stint at the cafe Carlyle and remained there for 35 years. Short stated his favorite songwriters were Ellington, Arlen and Kern, and he was instrumental in spearheading the construction of the Ellington Memorial in New York City.#bobbyshort #jazzhistory #nychistory by @muffnjazz
