Hi guysss, it’s been a while.

So I might need a reintroduction😚. I’m a Software Engineer, focusing on backend (NodeJs precisely).
I’d like to share some snippets of the first full result of what I’ve been “wasting” my time on lately😁, courtesy of the popular saying, “put yourself out there”.

So guys, I built a backend project, NASA mission tracker. This project started far back as 2023 when I was still in school; it got completed last year. Along the line, I got tired, got discouraged😪, broke down countless times, mentally, emotionally, psychologically, even physically and I almost gave up🤣.

There are still other ones I’m currently working on but let’s start with this…

For this project, I built a backend API using Node.js, Express and MongoDB. It’s designed to simulate a realistic space mission launch system. I was actually provided with a csv file (comma-separated values file) containing thousands of rows of possible planets where I had to shortlist the planets down to 8 “probably habitable” ones that met certain conditions for them to be habitable.
To enhance realism, the project also integrates live data from Elon Musk’s SpaceX’s public API, allowing interaction with real-world launch data.

The API allows users to plan and schedule space missions by filling this form entries in the client side of the project:

Selecting a destination planet,

Choosing a rocket type,

Setting a launch date, and

Naming their mission.

The system handles launch scheduling, launch tracking, and mission management, all connected to a MongoDB database for persistent storage.
It also performs validation checks — for instance, ensuring that selected planets are actually habitable, and launch dates are valid and in the future.

The goal of this project was to build a production-ready RESTful API that connects internal business logic with external live space data, practicing clean code architecture and realistic API design patterns.

PS: The frontend part of the project isn’t my work, it’s pre-built to incorporate my backend API.
