The yellow hanging flowers in clusters and the rosette of leaves are characteristic of barberry.
It is locally known in many Himalayan regions such as Kingora, Kilmora,Kasmol or Chutro.

These flowers later develop into red, purple, or bluish-black berries, which are edible when fully ripe. They taste pleasantly sour.it has a rich source of Vitamin C. Mainly it grows at an elivation of 1500m to 3500m in the Himalayan region of
Uttarakhand, Himanchal pradesh, Nepal and Ladakh.
Traditional usesof these berries are eaten fresh and used to make jams, chutneys, and juices. The roots and bark have also been used in traditional medicine because they contain berberine, a natural compound.it has some medicinal properties too.

The shrine dates back to 1517 CE, commemorating Guru Nanak's visit to Ladakh during his travels through Tibet and the Himalayas. According to local legend, a demon living in the mountains attempted to kill the Guru by rolling a massive boulder down the hill while he was meditating. Miraculously, the stone softened like warm wax when it touched Guru Nanak's body and molded around him. The demon, having witnessed this divine occurrence, repented and became a follower. For centuries, the sacred rock was also preserved and venerated by Buddhist Lamas, who revered the Guru as "Lama Nanak" or "Guru Gompa Maharaj.

The first batch of the Yunam Peak Expedition this season has been successfully completed! Trekkers successfully summited one of India's most accessible 6000-meter peaks, experiencing the thrill of high-altitude mountaineering amidst the rugged landscapes of Lahaul.

Yunam Peak is an 8-day expedition in Himachal Pradesh, reaching a maximum altitude of 20,100 ft. Often considered the perfect introduction to 6000-meter climbing, this expedition offers a unique blend of endurance, adventure, and breathtaking Himalayan views.

The journey begins from Manali and gradually ascends through Keylong, Jispa, Bharatpur, and high-altitude camps before reaching the summit. Along the way, trekkers witness dramatic landscapes, cross the iconic Atal Tunnel, pass pristine lakes like Deepak Tal and Suraj Tal, and experience the stark beauty of the trans-Himalayan terrain.

One of the biggest highlights of the expedition is the midnight summit push under a sky filled with stars and the Milky Way. As dawn breaks, trekkers are rewarded with a spectacular sunrise from the summit, where the surrounding peaks of the Chandrabhaga and Mulkilla ranges glow golden in the first rays of sunlight.

Yunam Peak is a journey into the world of mountaineering, offering an unforgettable experience of pushing limits, conquering altitude, and standing atop a 6000-meter Himalayan peak.
