This is my grandmother’s borscht. 🍲
She never wrote the recipe down - I learned it the only way you can, by standing next to her and watching. The little of this, the handful of that.
And now my grandfather - my other side of the family- says mine is the best he’s ever had. 🤍
That’s the whole thing, isn’t it. A recipe doesn’t end with the person who made it. It just finds the next pair of hands.

The honest version: this is a side hustle. I have a full-time job and two kids, and I built this at my desk after hours because I couldn’t stop thinking about the recipes my family lost.

I’m up at 5am for work. Two little kids. There are no spa days over here. 😅
But when they finally nap, I get maybe 20 minutes… and lately I spend them like this. A cup of coffee, quiet, and writing down the #recipes I’m scared of losing. My grandmother’s. My mom’s. The ones nobody wrote down.

My mom will never text “I love you.” 🤍
But she’ll make a pot of spas (our warm Armenian yogurt soup) drive it to my house, and leave it on my counter for me to find.
That’s the Armenian mom love language: showing up with food, no words needed.
One day I want to know exactly how she makes it. The herbs, the yogurt, the way she just knows. Before I have to guess.

A message that stayed with me this week. 🤍
He was at his parents’ house. His mom had made a pastry his dad loved, so he asked her to make it again. And he watched her dig through drawers and loose papers and half-finished notebooks, trying to find the recipe. Frustrated. It was in there somewhere. Maybe.
Then something clicked. He remembered one of my posts. “I’m getting this for my mom,” he said, “so recipes like this never get lost again.”
This is exactly why I made Mulberry Roots. And I’m so thankful to the people who keep reminding me - with their own stories. 🌳

This salad tastes like summer in Yerevan. 🍅🥒
My grandmother made it almost every day - tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, whatever herbs were fresh, oil, a little salt, nothing measured. Only in summer, only when the produce was at its peak. When the season ended, so did the salad. You waited a whole year for it again.
No recipe. Just the season, her hands, and everyone gathered at the table.
These are the ones I don’t want to lose. 🌳
