Mumbai's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the licence of a Domino's Pizza outlet in Parel after inspectors found chicken and paneer being prepared on the same grill and vegetarian and non-vegetarian food stored together in the same deep freezer. Licences or registrations of two other eateries in Bhandup and Kurla were also suspended over food safety and hygiene violations.

Mumbai recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 178, placing the city in the 'Unhealthy' category, according to AQI.in.

The reading showed PM2.5 levels at 98 µg/m³ and PM10 levels at 113 µg/m³. Mumbai was also ranked 39th among the world's most polluted cities on the website.

According to an estimate based on Berkeley Earth's research, breathing Mumbai's air was equivalent to smoking around 4 cigarettes a day, or approximately 28 cigarettes a week.

Residents are advised to limit exposure to polluted air, consider wearing an N95 mask outdoors and use an air purifier indoors.

Mumbai is facing a 10% water cut amid growing concerns about water availability. Following inadequate rainfall and fears linked to El Niño, the Maharashtra government has instructed urban and rural local authorities to reduce water consumption from October 16.

Meanwhile, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has proposed spending ₹8.25 crore on washing city roads to tackle dust and air pollution.

According to the proposal, approximately 377 roads stretching nearly 677 km across Mumbai would be washed using water tankers over 150 days, excluding the monsoon season. The operation would involve tankers with jetting systems and capacities of 2,000, 5,000 and 10,000 litres.

The BMC has clarified that recycled water, not drinking water, would be used for the cleaning work. Officials say the initiative is intended to reduce dust caused by construction projects, redevelopment, vehicle movement and industrial activities.

However, the proposed expenditure has sparked debate over civic priorities during a period of water restrictions. Standing Committee chairman Prabhakar Shinde has questioned the decision and requested clarification from the civic administration.

Commuters traveling between Bandra and Goregaon are set to experience major relief as construction advances on the Versova Interchange to Bangur Nagar elevated corridor, a crucial part of the Mumbai Coastal Road (North) project. Once completed, the new 4.5-kilometer, 8-lane elevated route will reduce travel times from 40-50 minutes down to just 10-15 minutes, significantly easing congestion for residents in Versova, Madh, Lokhandwala, Millat Nagar, Goregaon, and Bangur Nagar.

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Additional Commissioner Abhijit Bangar recently reviewed the project's progress and instructed teams to maintain strict parallel construction schedules to meet the targeted completion timeline. The -multicross infrastructure effort will seamlessly link with the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation's (MSRDC) Bandra-Versova Sea Link. With both projects aimed for completion by late 2028, commuters can look forward to a swift and continuous drive from Bandra to Goregaon starting in 2029.
