Kierra’s story shook me and stayed with me.

She was only 27. A beautiful, devoted mom of 7.
She passed away from heart failure, just months after giving birth.

I found her Facebook page and saw the joy, the love, the light she brought into her children’s lives. And I had never heard of the condition that took her life.

💔 And what hit me the most? This could happen to any of us. Mothers like me. Mothers like you. And many of us have never even heard of Postpartum Cardiomyopathy(PPCM).

🫀 It’s a rare but dangerous heart condition that can happen during or after pregnancy — and it’s often mistaken for normal postpartum symptoms.

I created this post to honor Kierra… and to help more women learn what to look for.

Please tag a mom.

🕊 Say a prayer for her 7 children.

📤 Share this — it could save a life

Let’s raise awareness together.
Kierra, you mattered. And we remember you. 💛

🗣 Have you ever heard of postpartum cardiomyopathy?
Let’s talk about it in the comments, your voice could help someone.

#MYTHBUSTERTUESDAY - Women have Vaginal bleeding after C-section and vaginal births.

Vaginal bleeding after a C-section occurs because the lining of the uterus, which has grown to be very thick during pregnancy, sloughs off after delivery and removal of the placenta. The resulting discharge, which is called "lochia," is a mix of this uterine tissue, blood, and mucus. Lochia starts off red with small clumps, then changes into brown, pink, and creamy white colors.
-------
How Long Do You Bleed After a C-Section?👇

Most people experience vaginal bleeding for several weeks. "Bleeding varies from one patient to another, but it may occur for up to four-six weeks". Bleeding sometimes lasts longer than this, but it should have stopped by 12 weeks. It mainly comes from where the placenta was attached to the womb.
---------‐-
How Heavy Is the Bleeding?👇

The amount of blood you see will be contingent on several factors, including your body and timing.

Bleeding will be heaviest in the first few days after a C-section. It will then taper off as you continue recovery

You'll also notice color variations. Immediately after birth, most people bleed bright red; however, as time progresses, the color will shift to brown to pink and, ultimately, white.
-------------
We recommend that you use maternity pads rather than thinner sanitary pads. They may also feel more comfortable to wear.

🎁 Our C - Section Recovery Bump2Baby Box is available to Order Now ( yes, it includes organic maternity pads).

#MYTHBUSTERTUESDAY - Babies’ movements do not increase or decrease just before labour. You should continue to feel the baby’s movements right up until the birth.
------------
Between 16 and 24 weeks of pregnancy, as your baby becomes bigger and stronger, movements increase.

Fetal movements tend to peak around 32 weeks; after that, the activity level remains steady until labour and birth.
------------
Although your baby’s movements might plateau during the third trimester, there should be no reduction in the frequency of the movements.

Babies move throughout pregnancy, up to and even during labour. It’s not normal for your baby’s movements to slow or stop at any point in pregnancy.
--------------
Also, having something cold or hot to eat or drink won’t affect your baby’s movements.

‼️If at any time you notice any change or stop your baby’s normal pattern of movement or you feel your baby is not as active as usual, contact your doctor or midwife immediately.

There are so many things I wish I knew about postpartum to better prepare myself, so please join me and these amazing women on @lagosmums IG live as we discuss postpartum myths and realities on Friday, March 3rd at 8pm (WAT). See you there💛 by @mumsalive

Have you heard about postpartum night sweats? If you are a first-time time mum, probably not.

I didn't even know it had a name until I had my second child🤷🏾‍♀️.

I wake up in the middle of the night, and I am completely drenched as if I had run a marathon😭. I mean, it is bad enough that as a new mum, I am getting little to no sleep, and the sleep I do get, I wake up drenched in sweat!

It was quite worrisome for me till I became informed😊
~
But these are some things about being a postpartum parent that aren’t talked about nearly enough yet are experienced by most of us.
~
Not everyone goes through this—and it can be different from one pregnancy to another—but if you experience it, don’t worry - it is normal!
~
I am here to tell you that you are not alone💛

We are super excited to announce our first IG live session with @ayoayeni1, founder of Haven Advocacy on Thursday, 9th February, 2023 at 8pm ( WAT).

Ayo is a business and family life strategist and consultant with a practice that supports women through by far, one of the biggest life transitions – Matrescence.

She does this through Haven Advocacy Company, headquartered in Lagos, Nigeria, which renders the much-needed multi-layered dynamic support across Perinatal Mental Health; Family Life; Child Protection; Parenting; and RETAIN Parental Leave Coaching.

She is Postpartum Support International and Center for Parental Leave Leadership trained. She is also a faculty at Taiwo Akinlami Academy.

Despite recent attention to Perinatal Mental Health, women continue to be silenced by the taboo against expressing negative feelings and thoughts about being a mother.

Maternal Mental Health comes with alot of shame and stigma and we are going to be tackling the issues one after the other.

Our goal is to help mums at every stage validate their feelings, empower them with the right information and for them to start feeling better - Most importantly to let every mum know you are not alone!

We are so excited to start our Postpartum Truth Thursdays💃.

On Postpartum Truth Thursdays, we break the silence and share honest and raw experiences of postpartum life, breaking the stigma and fostering a supportive community.
~
It is important that we begin with the truth that Postpartum is Forever! - This is not to scare anyone but to inform you and make you stop and think that Postpartum goes beyond 6 weeks after childbirth.
~
There is an ongoing emotional and physical changes that occur after baby is born and you should not give in to societal expectation that mothers should be able to immediately return to their pre-pregnancy state and duties, which is not always possible.
~
You are not your pre- pregnancy self! Of course, there are parts of you that will always remain and you are also a new version of you! A new version of you with your heart outside of your body. Your miraculous body I might add. Be kind and gentle on yourself 💛.
~

Did you find yourself having expectations of your postpartum mind and body? What about it surprised you the most? Please share your experience in the comments👇
