You ever have that one friend who just sees your potential before you do? Yeah, that’s Jeff.

One day, Jeff looked at me, looked at the murals, looked back at me, and said, “Brian, you take awesome pictures of awesome murals, and you’re awesome. You should make a tour of all this awesomeness.”

And boom—Mural Ride was born. Just like that.

Want to see what all this awesomeness is about? Book a tour, tag your ride-or-die, and let’s roll.

You don’t have to ride a bike to care about this. 🚲

You can be a cyclist. A downtown business owner. An urban planning nerd. Someone who drives everywhere. Someone who takes VIA. Or someone who has never thought twice about bike infrastructure.

This conversation is still for you.

San Antonio is considering a nearly $18 million investment in Market and Commerce Streets downtown. A protected cycle track is part of it, but I think the bigger conversation is this:

What do we expect our downtown streets to do?

Move cars? Move people? Support businesses? Accommodate deliveries and transit? Make it safer to walk and ride? Create places where people actually want to stop, explore, eat, shop and spend time?

I own a bike tour company, so yes, I come into this conversation with a perspective.

But I also spend a lot of time moving through downtown at 10 or 12 miles per hour with people experiencing San Antonio for the first time.

I see what happens when people experience a city outside of a car.

They notice the mural. The restaurant. The coffee shop. The architecture. The storefront they didn’t know existed.

Bicycles do more than move people through downtown. They help people discover it.

That doesn’t mean the concerns surrounding this project should be dismissed.

Deliveries matter. Hotel access matters. VIA matters. Emergency access matters. Construction impacts matter. And nearly $18 million deserves scrutiny.

So scrutinize it.

Challenge the intersections. Challenge the loading plan. Challenge the construction strategy. Challenge the details.

But challenge the project to become better, not smaller.

We don’t have to choose between supporting businesses and creating safer streets. We don’t have to choose between deliveries and a cycle track. And this doesn’t have to become another argument about cars versus bikes.

San Antonio is growing. Downtown is changing. Our transportation choices need to grow with it.

I appreciate organizations and communities like @strongtownssatx, @activatesatx and @satxsocialride continuing to push conversations about how we build safer, stronger and more co taken in San Antonio, Texas by @mural_ride

This is your sign to spend more time outside this summer.

Summer in San Antonio doesn't have to mean staying indoors.

Grab some friends, hop on a bike, and discover the colorful side of the city. From massive murals and hidden street art to local neighborhoods full of stories, music, and culture, there's so much more waiting beyond the River Walk.

Whether you're visiting for the weekend or you've lived here your whole life, exploring outside is one of the best ways to experience San Antonio.

Trade screen time for sunshine, fresh air, and memories you'll actually remember.

A lot of people asked us the same question after last weekend's Zona Cultural Public Art Walk:

"When's the next one?"

As part of the City of San Antonio Department of Arts & Culture's celebration of 30 years of public art, we had the opportunity to introduce more than 100 people to the artists, stories, murals, sculptures, and public spaces that help make San Antonio unique.

Along the route, we highlighted works by:

🎨 Christopher Montoya
🎨 Ashleigh Garza
🎨 Diana Kersey
🎨 Rhys Munro (RHY$)
🎨 Mike "Comp" Arguello

One of the biggest takeaways from the day was seeing how many people wanted to continue exploring public art in San Antonio.

So we're excited to share that we're now offering a similar experience through our Downtown Public Art Walk, beginning at Sojourn Trading Co. and exploring murals, public art, local history, and the stories that shape downtown San Antonio.

If you missed the Zona Cultural walk or simply want to keep exploring, we'd love to have you join us.

For more information, visit Mural Ride Bike Tours and look for our Downtown Public Art Walk.

Thank you again to the City of San Antonio Department of Arts & Culture, all of the participating artists, and Sunday Theory Creative for helping bring this event to life.
