A quick look back at the past month. ๐ŸŽจ

Weโ€™ve had the chance to work with @zus.coffee on a series of art workshops for children from local orphanages, and itโ€™s been a genuinely enjoyable experience for our team.

Every session was a little different. Some kids carefully planned every detail, while others jumped straight in and somehow made it work. There were plenty of creative ideas, lots of questions, and more colours being used than we expected.

Seeing the children become more confident with each workshop and proudly share their finished pieces was one of the highlights for us.

A big thank you to ZUS Coffee for including Murasaki Mango Art Studio in making this happen! Bringing the joy of art has always been our mission. Thank you to all the young artists who joined us over the past month, we had a great time creating together.

Here are a few moments and artworks from the workshops โœจ

Art Media of the ' ฬถmฬถoฬถnฬถtฬถhฬถ' ๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธ
Watercolour Painting

Watercolour paintings are made of pigments that are sensitive and reacts to water as a medium to facilitate the paint. It is a water base solution just like the name suggested. It is often confused with poster paint as poster paint is also water based colour but has a richer and thicker colour white watercolour has a more mellow and 'watery texture' to the drawing.

There are a lot of techniques in water colour to master such as the 'wet on wet', the wet on dry, colour change and many other which takes years to master. Besides, it's not only a difficult media to use but it is quite renowned in the world of art.

Watercolour papers are usually made from cotton to give the surface the appropriate texture and minimizes the distortion when wet watercolour papers are usually cold-pressed papers that provides better texture and appearance with weight at leas 300gsm. We do not recommend any water colour papers below 300gsm as it will not absorb the colour properly.

Finally transparency is the main characteristic of watercolours and it plays with a lot of contrats and negative and positive spacing. It's quite a difficult media to wrap around the head but once you try it, it's actually pretty addictive and fun!

Art Media of the Week! ๐Ÿงง
Chinese Brush Painting! ไธญๅœ‹็•ซ (zhoฬ„ng guoฬ huaฬ€)

Chinese brush painting is a unique art work that derives from ancient history China as one of the medium to express painting and poetry during the dynasty periods. It is also one of the oldest continuous artistic traditions in the world.

The paper for Chinese Brush Painting is special and called 'Traditional rice paper'. It comes in a yellowish hue and also comes in pure white; depending on the ingredients and material used. Although it's called rice paper, these papers are made from a great variety of plant fibers, such as bamboo, mulberry bark, cotton, hemp, linen and rice straw (dried stalks of the rice plant where the name of the paper came from).

Besides, the next component of Chinese Brush painting is the ink, the ink is a special blank ink which is called ๅขจ (moฬ€). They are primarily made from soot and it's used for Chinese calligraphy and also paintings.

And finally, to top it with the most important component of all, we got the brush for the Chinese Brush Painting or ๅฎฃ็ฌ” (xuaฬ„n biฬŒ) in Mandarin. The main body of the brush is made from thin bamboos and the tip of the brushes are made from animal's fur. There are different types of brushes made from different types of fur and the most common brush widely used is ็พŠๆฏซ (yaฬng haฬo) or goats wool brush. Another popular brush is called ็‹ผๆฏซ (laฬng haฬo) or wolf brush. Although the name is called wolf brush, it's not made from wolf fur but made from ้ป„้ผ ็‹ผ (huaฬng shuฬŒ laฬng)[yellow mouse wolf] โ€“ a local name for the Siberian weasel. All these brushes has a long tip and retains a lot of water in it's fur.

For those who are celebrating Chinese New Year. Happy Chinese New Year! ๆญๅ–œ็™ผ่ฒก๏ผ๐Ÿฐ taken in Murasaki MangO Art Studio by @murasakimango

Colour Pencil!

We are no stranger to the humble colour pencil as we were exposed to it since childhood. Itโ€™s often used as a dry media on paper and it's very versatile media in terms of techniques.

Colour pencil might be associated to the basics and children art work but it is actually quite a complex media to master as it can produce super realism artwork with combining fine strokes and toning together.

Oil Pastel!

Oil Pastel is a type of dry art media that is oily and waxy. Normally, we just name them Crayons but Crayons are actually a little bit different from Oil Pastel.

What's the difference between Oil Pastel and Crayon?
-Oil Pastel has a stronger and more vibrant colour than Crayon and also blends better because of it's waxy thickness while Crayons' colour are dull and weaker in terms of colour pigments and will not blend as smoothly as Oil Pastel.
