Helping local businesses generate more qualified calls and enquiries from people already searching for their services.
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Sometimes I’ll tell you NOT to buy SEO.

Recently,

I was working with a roofing company that wanted to generate more enquiries through Google.

Naturally, SEO became part of the conversation.

But before recommending more SEO, I wanted to understand what was already happening inside the business.

Because after 5 years of working with local businesses, one thing has become very clear to me:

More visibility isn’t always the first problem you need to solve.

Sometimes people are already finding the business.

Traffic is coming in.

Enquiries are happening.

But somewhere between being found and becoming a customer, something breaks.

Maybe it’s trust.

Maybe it’s the website.

Maybe it’s follow-up.

Maybe it’s the offer.

Maybe the customer journey simply gives people too many chances to choose someone else.

And if that part of the business is leaking, sending more traffic into it doesn’t automatically create growth.

Sometimes it just makes the leak more expensive.

That’s why I don’t like starting a client conversation with:

“Which service do you need?”

I’d rather understand:

What are you trying to grow?

Where are customers coming from?

What happens after they contact you?

Where are you losing them?

And what is actually stopping the business from moving forward?

Sometimes the answer really is SEO.

Sometimes it’s Google Ads.

Sometimes it’s the website.

Sometimes it’s follow-up, trust, positioning, or something completely different.

And sometimes the smartest recommendation is:

Don’t spend more yet. Fix the problem first.

That might mean I don’t sell an SEO package that day.

I’m okay with that.

I’d rather lose a sale by telling a business owner they don’t need more SEO yet than win the account by prescribing the wrong solution.

Because if SEO isn’t the problem, selling more SEO doesn’t make me better at SEO.

It just makes me better at selling SEO.

And that’s not the business I’m trying to build.

A client isn’t simply handing me an SEO account.

They’re trusting me with part of a business they may have spent years building, along with real money they expect me to use responsibly.

Most business owners look at the rating.

4.8.
4.9.
Looks good. 👍

But what about the customers?

The fact is that they don’t always look at it that way.

Sometimes they scroll straight to the bad reviews.

One person says nobody called back.

Another says communication was poor.

Then a third person says almost the same thing.

And now?

Those 200 good reviews don’t feel quite as strong anymore.

That’s the thing.

A bad review is not always just a reputation problem.

Sometimes it’s actually showing you where people are losing trust in the business.

And if the same complaint keeps showing up...

I’d pay attention to that.

SEO can get you found.

But trust?

That’s what gets you chosen. 👀

A high-paying client can still be a bad client.

Took me a while in the agency business to understand this.

Because naturally, when a bigger client comes in, it feels like a win.

Bigger project.

 Higher retainer.

 More opportunity.

But then you learn...

Money doesn’t make the relationship work.

You agree on a direction today.

Tomorrow, there’s another idea.

Two days later, priorities change again.

Then they see what a competitor is doing and suddenly...

“We should do this too.”

SEO needs results.

 Ads need results.

 The website needs changing.

 Content needs pushing.

Everything becomes a priority.

And when everything is a priority, honestly, nothing really is.

I’ve experienced this myself.

And I want to be fair here.

Changing direction is NOT the problem.

Businesses change. Markets change. Sometimes new information tells us the original plan was wrong.

There have been plenty of times when I’ve been the one telling a client, “We need to change this.”

That’s part of the job.

What makes things difficult is changing direction based on emotion, impatience or whatever feels urgent that particular day.

Because you can have a great strategy and a capable team...

but if you keep moving the destination, eventually everyone is just running.

Not progressing.

That’s why these days, when I think about my ideal client, the size of the retainer isn’t at the top of my list.

I want someone who questions me.

Someone who can tell me when they think I’m wrong.

And equally, someone who is comfortable hearing the same from me.

We discuss.

 We disagree sometimes.

 We make the decision.

Then we give that decision a fair chance to work.

I don’t need every client.

And I definitely don’t need clients who agree with everything I say.

I need clients I can build with.

There’s a difference.

Good agencies need good clients too.

Imagine a business owner finally seeing their website ranking #1 on Google.

They're happy. And why wouldn't they be?

They've invested in SEO for months, rankings are improving, impressions are growing, and the report looks great.

But then comes the question.

**"If we're ranking so well, why aren't we getting more enquiries?"**

And that's where things get interesting.

After working with businesses across different industries, I've noticed how easily we can get distracted by numbers that look impressive but don't always translate into business.

Let me give you a hypothetical example.

Imagine two roofing companies.

**Company A** gets 2,000 visitors a month, mostly from searches like "how to fix a leaking roof" or "DIY roof repair tips."

**Company B** gets only 200 visitors, but they're coming from searches like "emergency roof repair near me" or "roofing contractor in Manchester."

Now, let's say:

Company A: **2,000 visitors → 5 enquiries**

Company B: **200 visitors → 20 enquiries**

See the difference?

One has 10 times more traffic, but the other generates 4 times more enquiries.

Of course, these are hypothetical numbers, but the point is real.

**More traffic doesn't automatically mean more customers.**

And that's something I always remind my team at DynaByte Digital.

Are we just improving rankings, or are we actually helping the right customers find the business?

Because rankings, impressions, and traffic are important. I'm not denying that.

But so are phone calls, enquiries, bookings, and actual sales.

And we shouldn't ignore what happens after a lead comes in, either.

A business owner has employees to pay, expenses to manage, and a company to grow.

So our marketing strategy needs to consider the bigger picture.

**Ranking #1 on Google is an achievement. But turning that visibility into real business opportunities is what makes it valuable.**

At the end of the day, rankings don't pay the bills.

Customers do.

I wanted my team to come back from BITPA with something they could bring into their own work.

An idea, a different perspective, or even a question we hadn’t thought to ask before.

We spend so much time delivering work that sometimes we need to step outside our routine and see how other people are thinking.

BITPA 2026 in Cox’s Bazar gave us that opportunity.

Time to listen, meet people in the industry and have conversations beyond our usual circle.

Now that we’re back, I want us to talk about what stayed with us. What can we try at DynaByte?

What could help us work better together and deliver better results for our clients?

But yes, we enjoyed the sea too. Couldn’t go all the way to Cox’s Bazar and miss that 😄

Time by the beach, cha adda, the long journey and random conversations with the team.

It felt good to slow down a little and spend time together without every conversation becoming about a deadline.

You get to know your people differently outside the office.

And I want that comfort to carry into our work. Share your ideas. Ask when you’re stuck. If you think there’s a better way, say it.

That’s the kind of team I want to build at DynaByte Digital.

Glad we made this trip together. Some good memories to keep ❤️

£1,500 spent. £30,000 in quotes.

Looks great.

And yeah... I’d be happy seeing that too 😅

But I still wouldn’t call it a win yet.

Because £30,000 quoted isn’t £30,000 earned.

Google Ads can bring the right homeowner.

Someone searching because they actually need a roofer, not someone randomly scrolling.

That part matters.

But once the phone rings?

A lot of this is no longer about Google Ads.

Did someone answer?

How quickly did you get the quote out?

Did you follow up?

And when that homeowner had 2 or 3 other quotes sitting in front of them...

why should they choose you?

That’s why £30k in quotes would make me interested.

But the next number would make me much more interested:

How much actually closed?

I like looking at the whole journey.

Ad spend → Lead → Quote → Closed job → Revenue

Because ultimately, a roofing company doesn’t grow from clicks.

It doesn’t even grow from quotes.

It grows when the job gets won.

Numbers here are illustrative, not a client case study.

A £40 click sounds expensive.

And yeah... if you’re looking at just the click, it probably is.

But for a roofing company, that’s not really the number I’d be obsessing over.

I’d want to know what happened after the click.

Did they call?

Were they actually a homeowner in your service area?

Was it a small repair... or a £10,000+ roofing job?

Did someone answer quickly?

Did you book the estimate?

And ultimately... did you win the job?

Because if that £40 click eventually becomes a £10,000 roof, suddenly £40 doesn’t sound quite so expensive.

Of course, not every click becomes a customer.

Far from it.

That’s exactly why looking at CPC alone can give you the wrong picture.

You have to follow the money all the way through:

Click → Enquiry → Qualified Lead → Estimate → Job → Revenue

I’ve seen businesses get too focused on making the first number cheaper.

Cheaper clicks.
Cheaper leads.

But cheap doesn’t automatically mean profitable.

Sometimes the click that looks expensive on the dashboard is the one that puts real money into the business.

That’s the number I care about.

More Leads Can Actually Make Your Business Worse!

Sounds wrong, right?

Because when sales slow down, the first thought is usually:

“We need more leads.”

So you increase the ad budget.

Push harder on SEO.

Launch another campaign.

And the leads start coming.

But then I look at what happens after the lead arrives.

A missed call isn’t returned.

A form submission sits there for hours.

Someone asks for a quote and gets it two days later.

One follow-up.

Then silence.

And somehow...

Marketing gets blamed.

I’ve seen this enough times to realize:

Sometimes a business doesn’t have a lead problem.

It has a leak.

And pouring more leads into a leaking system doesn’t create growth.

It just makes the leak more expensive.

Before asking:

“How do we get more leads?”

I’d ask:

“What happened to the last 20?”

That answer can tell you far more about your business than another marketing campaign ever will.
