I’m your mom friend with tips for visiting the #houstonmuseumdistrict with kids. Tips based on my own opinion. Use at your own discretion and risk.

POSTS STORIES REELS

I’ve seen a few people, clearly headed out to the rodeo, 🤠 struggling with the Metro ticket machines. In my opinion, the easiest way to buy Metro tickets is using the Q Ticketing app. You can download it on the spur of the moment from an iPhone or Android. Here are some pics to guide you through the purchase process. Note: You might need to change your payment method from the default (see pics). You can use Apple Pay if you have that set up. Hop on the Red Line (Southbound if you are coming from the Museum District or Downtown) and exit at the Stadium Park/Astrodome stop. Kick up those heels and have some fun at one of my favorite Houston events!

Haven’t been able to post much anymore because work and life are quite busy but I had to take time to post about the Bayou Parkland Natural Area at Hermann Park. If your kids love playing with logs and forts and hopping on stepping stones, they will enjoy this. It was created using trees we lost in the storms a few years ago. Map location at the end of this reel or search for Bayou Parkland. It’s also the perfect place to bring bikes or scooters, and it’s not too far from the Urban Forest.

One of my sweet neighbor friends invited me to the Community Day @elevatecollegiate. ☀️ Museum District Dad, the kiddo, and I all had a blast checking it out. The school is bright and spacious, the playground is amazing, and all of the classrooms are named for colleges and universities. The educators are so passionate about empowering all of their students with an elevated educational experience. They draw from a range of experience in local education, outside industries, and even teaching abroad. I saw first-hand the easy connections they made with children, including my own who can always be a bit shy at first. If you have a Pre-K4 through 5th grader and are in Third Ward or within an easy drive, check them out at: elevatecolleagiate.org or @elevatecollegiate

Cinco de Mayo arrived early for us Museum District Moms! Last week, we enjoyed the relaxing yet festive patio at Candente—a favorite Tex-Mex spot nearby in Montrose. My husband and I love the pork carnitas, the tacos, and the nachos. Our daughter always enjoys the cheese quesadilla. Even our out-of-state family loves it, so we have to pay a visit whenever they are in town. One loves the nachos while another enjoys the tortilla soup. Our neighbors can’t get enough of the fajitas. You get the idea—this place is awesome. Both indoor and outdoor seating is available, but I personally love the large, covered patio with fans and a fountain. There is also a lovely courtyard and a private room for events. They have coloring sheets with crayons and a kids’ menu. Oh, and they also have free soft serve, too! The drinks are great, the service is friendly, and all of this makes it a fav among neighborhood families. Check it out @candentehtx along with @thepitroom nearby for amazing brisket. by @museumdistrictmama

Throwback Thursday! In April, we enjoyed a leisurely & delicious dinner @davissthouston! As luck would have it, it was #blackrestaurantweek so we got to try the features menu. The gumbo and pork chop were sooo good! Can’t wait to come back again soon for my year-round favs the Thai Style Red Snapper & the Velvety Key Lime Cheesecake. 😋 They always have an awesome playlist of throwbacks to create such a good vibe. It also brightens my day to see Chef Holley in the dining room, clearly delighting in the joy his creations bring to diners. by @museumdistrictmama

Gardens & Goblets is always a good time, rain or shine! The 2025 event did NOT disappoint! Thanks to the amazing @hermannpark Urban Green organizers & all of the amazing vendors who came out to support our priceless Hermann Park. 🌳 I won a gift card in the raffle to @dalbahtx so I will be hurrying over soon to enjoy their delicious food and drinks while my daughter enjoys their play area for kids. 🛝 Check out the reel for a sneak peek of ALL of the awesome bars & restaurants who were there. DJ Cleo Fox kept the party grooving 🎶 along with her crew again this year. Thanks for a great time!

Check out more upcoming events at hermannpark.org & join Urban Green!

Recently visited The Pavia Tapestries now on view @mfahouston with friends and we all loved it! An audio guide is included, and points of interest in the battle tapestries are highlighted. Large swords and full suits of armor are on display, too. The best part is the play area at the end and the thoughtfully-designed booklet for kids with activity prompts to complete there or take home. The teacher in me loved that! Kids are free every day. Adults are free on Thursday. Admission and memberships support our amazing @mfahouston on other days. Check it out soon before the knights ride on. It’s on view until May 26th.

Spring Break museum events! The Rodeo! Miller shows return! So much fun stuff happening in the district and just a quick metro ride away. It’s also time to say goodbye to a special Houston Zoo exhibit. Check out a few highlights in this post. Link in bio.

I love @rodeohouston so much that we typically buy season passes each year! It’s not in the Museum District, but it’s just a few stops southbound on the metro Red Line. Stay at a hotel on the line or park in a garage on the line for door-to-door service! Check out the blog post featuring our favorite stops and tips when visiting the rodeo each year! Link in bio. It is such a well-organized event for a great cause (tons of scholarships), so get the family out there or plan a concert date night!
