Part of Derry’s @bloodysundayt Developing International Solidarity programme, our day with Honor the Earth took us from Donegal along the north coast.

From the ancient stone fort of Grianán of Aileach to Dunluce Castle, Downhill Beach and the heights of Binevenagh, we visited places shaped by centuries of history, and the deep connections between people and the land.

“We are the land, the land is who we are, it informs everything about us, as people and individuals, communities, nations.”

Krystal Two Bulls, Executive Director, Honor the Earth

Historian and author Tom Hartley joined us at the Museum of Free Derry to talk about his latest book, The Al Rawdah.

In conversation with Eoghan Mac Cormaic, Tom looked back at internment without trial in the north of Ireland in the late 1930s and early 1940s, and the story of the Al Rawdah prison ship on Strangford Lough, where internees were held in harsh conditions.

Thanks to Tom and Eoghan for a really interesting discussion, and to everyone who came along. by @museumfreederry

LAND BACK 🌎

It was a privilege to spend the week with Honor the Earth.

Indigenous organisers from the US visited Derry as part of the Bloody Sunday Trust Developing International Solidarity week-long programme.

Their visit built on a history of solidarity between Indigenous activists and the Bloody Sunday campaign, including the visit of American Indian Movement co-founder Clyde Bellecourt to Derry in 1985.

Landback is about more than the return of land. It is about sovereignty, culture, community, self-determination, and the rights of indigenous people.
