Can’t believe it’s been a little over a year since graduation! ✨

My six years in music school taught me so much. Here are five things I wish I’d known before studying music in college. :)

Happy practicing! 🎻🌱

A little *Hallelujah* to remember a whole chapter of our lives❤️🎻

Recorded on December 25, 2025, at the studios of MTSU in Tennessee, after a busy week of recording music with our friends.

My partner and I hadn’t really had a chance to celebrate Christmas that year, so we decided to record a little snippet of this piece together before he left the next day. We wouldn’t see each other again for three months, making this recording a way to hold on to that time and our last Christmas together while living in the U.S.

More than a memory of that day, this recording has become a tribute to our years in the South, where we first met; to the music we shared; and to all those Christmases spent playing in churches and sharing music with others. ❤️

A little piece of music holding memories of a place, a time, and a life we shared.

*Hallelujah* — Leonard Cohen

I’ve been meaning to share some moments from the event Immersive Monkey Praxis on September 25.

There’s something special about stepping into an experience that invites you to listen, explore, and connect in unexpected ways. IMP was an opportunity to be present, embrace the unexpected, and experience the magic of being part of something unfolding in real time.

Still thinking about the moments, the energy, and the connections that made the experience so memorable.

Grateful to everyone who helped bring it to life! ✨

My name is Amani Zouehid, I’m a 29 year-old professional cellist, and I’m not ashamed to admit…

1️⃣I didn’t have the kind of musical training or connections that I thought were necessary to build a successful career. I used to believe that studying with the “right” professors was what made or broke a musician’s future. Over time, I’ve realized how much that belief fed my own insecurities and made me underestimate what I could build for myself.

2️⃣My technique didn’t really click for me until my late 20s. I was so afraid of playing the wrong note that I overthought almost everything about playing the cello. It took a lot of inner work to stop letting fear dictate how I played and start trusting my musical instincts.

3️⃣I spent much of music school feeling like I was playing catch-up. Although I started playing the cello early in life, I initially approached music more as a hobby than as a serious career path. By the time I began pursuing it more seriously, I found myself comparing my progress to peers who had been immersed in music from an early age, with access to more opportunities and resources than I had. I often worried that I was already falling behind.

4️⃣My final master’s recital featured an entire program of technically demanding works inspired by nature. What fascinates me is how much nature can teach us about making music: how to move between tension and release, embrace unpredictability, and allow things to unfold rather than forcing them. I’m still learning how to bring those qualities into my own playing, and it’s something I want to keep exploring throughout my musical journey.

5️⃣I used to believe that where you studied and who you studied with determined how far you could go in a music career. Looking back, I realize that belief sometimes protected me from confronting my own self-doubt and learning to trust my abilities.

I’m still growing. I’m still learning. And I still have days when I need to remind myself of everything I’ve learned along the way.

If any of this resonates with you, you’re in the right place. Follow @musicalcello_ for more on exploring creative processes and authentic playing.

Who am I as a musician?

We spend so much of our youth learning “everything we need” to succeed in the music world, but…

what is “everything we need”?

For which version of ourselves?

And what does success actually mean to us?

I’ve been questioning these things throughout my own journey, and I continue to do so.

I’m still learning

still questioning

still discovering other faces of my musicianship, and I don’t think that ever really stops.

I am a creative collaborator to my students because, to me, learning is nothing other than a creative artistic process. Together, we explore questions, develop critical reasoning/thinking, experiment with possibilities, and examine what isn’t working.

A space where we ask bigger questions:

-Who do I want to become regardless of music and/or cello?

-What does music mean to me?

-And what kind of experience do I actually want to create?

Maybe becoming a musician isn’t about finally playing perfectly….Maybe it’s about staying curious enough to keep asking questions.

What questions are shaping your journey???

Reminiscing about a time I used to be a Waldorf teacher assistant and how many hats I’ve worn throughout my life…

I allowed this “Amani edition” to come to life and make its way into this dimension.
I’m currently bringing a new one to life, with pinceladas from the ones who came before. This edition is definitely making its way up, as it should.
