I love books by Black, AAPI, Hispanic and African authors. My passion for reading novels comes from my mother who made sure I read diverse books.
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
As we come to the last day of LatinX Heritage Month I would like to highlight one of my favorite authors.

When I read "Clap When You Land," by Elizabeth Acevedo I was immediately transported to the Dominican Republic. She effortlessly describes the beauty and pain points of life in the Dominican Republic 🇩🇴 ✨️

Despite being the fastest growing demographic in the United States, the Latinx population is vastly underrepresented in the literary arts. And when it comes to the book industry, only 7.62 percent of published authors identify as Hispanic.

My hope is that more LatinX voices will be represented in the future as it relates to the publishing industry.

¡Este libro es muy importante para la cultura del Diaspora!

¡Elizabeth Acevedo es el reina de ficcion!
¡Sus papabras en los paginas son magico!
¿Que libro es tu favorito de esta autora?

Jill and Ted Prescott are married and living a very luxurious lifestyle in New York City. They take Ted's brother, Greg, out on their boat for a bonding experience. Greg goes missing once the trip is over. Detective Ramirez is assigned to the case to find out what happened to Greg Prescott once his dead body is discovered.

Nadia, a housekeeper, works for Jill and Ted Prescott. Nadie cares for not only herself but for her troubled adult son as well. Nadie's son takes an interest in the rich married couple and begins spying on Jill and Ted. He then stumbles across some very sensative information about the wealthy couple.

How far will Jill and Ted go to ensure that their secret remains safe?

The plot of this book kept me guessing until the end. This is my first time reading a novel by Shari Lapena, and it definitely won't be my last time.

What is your favorite book by Shari Lapena???

A true family can be a hard thing to define. A family is not always the one a person is born into. Sometimes a family is one you're "chosen" in to either through the legal system or through tremendous love from your peer group.

"Little Family," by Ishmael Beah, tells the story of five young adults living together in an abandoned plane in postcolonial Africa. They've come into this family through the actions wars that European countries waged against their country.

The "little family" (as they call themselves) live from one day to the next pilfering what they need from those they feel can do without.

Every member has a role in their family, Khoudiemata (Khoudi), acting as the mother figure and Elimane as the educated father figure. Ndevui and Kpindi act as big brothers to Namsa and tend to be the goofballs of the group. Although Namsa is the baby of the family she tends to act as the eyes of the group a lot of the time when they're looking for food and supplies. Everything seems to be running well for the little family until they come across William Hankerchief who threatens to annihilate them.

Ishmael Beah, the author, was rescued by UNICEF from Sierra Leone, during genocide and war brought against the country by European influences. I look forward to reading more books 📚 from this author.

So many celebrations 🍾 are going on in the African diaspora this month. If you follow my account then you know that I LOVE Nigerian 🇳🇬 culture. Everything from the kente cloth, to the African headwraps, and especially the BOOKS!!!

Classic Pioneers In Nigerian Literature are:

"Under The Udala Trees," 🌳 by
Chinelo Okparanta, is one of my favorite books of all time!!!!!

It takes a deep dive in to cultural norms, family bonds, boarding schools, politics, and the relationship with the LGBT community.

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, is an internationally acclaimed author famous for novels like "Half of a Yellow Sun, which talks about the Civil War and genocide that occurred in Nigeria. 🇳🇬

TEMS: She is not an author lol, but she is one of my favorite singers who uplifts Nigeria.

Oyinkan Braithwaite, is the author of the sharp, and darkly humorous thriller "My Sister, the Serial Killer."

A long term friend group travels to the snow capped mountains of Tanzania. Everyone returns except for two friends that came up dead.

Was it a accidental deaths or were they murdered???

The author, Kimberly McCreight, uses dual timelines in the past and the present to give depth to the characters.

Richard is a complicated man.
He works for Goldman Sachs.
He is married to his wealthy trust fund wife, Gretchen...
and Richard is having a love affair with another woman named Frankie.

Frankie Callahan is an artist.
She is a mistress.
She has also caught the attention of a wealthy married man...

Families are destroyed.
Secrets are lethal.
Dead bodies are piling up.

The police want to get to the bottom of the crimes.
Who is the killer in this twisted "friend" group???

This is my first time reading Kimberly McCreight and I was absolutely impressed with how she pulls the reader in to her story. The plot development is marvelous and will definitely keep you hooked on continuing to see what the next chapter may deliver!!!

In "The Murder After, The Night Before," author Katy Brent took the readers through a forrest of deception on to the streets of Central London.

Posie is dead...but was it murder or suicide.
Detective Wolf is assigned the case, he initially believes Posie drunk too much alcohol and killed herself but Molly convinces him that it was murder.

Sapphie is a calculated liar.
Simon is a raging narcissist.
Susie is a pushover.
Johnathan is a fool.
This book is 💋.

Sapphie and Susan are two sister's with a complicated past. They grew up in a household where their stepfather sexually abused them during childhood. Their mother was emotionally neglecting both girls and all they had was each other.

One of the sister's start killing abusive men at a very young age and makes a career out of it in adulthood.

Johnathan is a crimes news reporter who starts investigating a series of murders in London that are leading him to believe he is dealing with a serial killer.

Yikes!!!!!!!!

The police accuse Jonathan of being the insane nut that is killing women all over London. Johnathan sets out to find the real killer so he can clear his name.

This book was so good that it was hard to put the book down once I started reading it.

I definitely look forward to reading more books from
Julie Cohen!

Hey book club girlies 👋

I have really been in a mystery novel mood lately. I attribute it to the spooky 👻 season coming up, plus I love drama 😆.

From time to time I like to get away and be in nature with a good book while I listen to the ocean waves 🌊.

So...this week I am starting a book by an author that is new to me and I am really excited about this book club selection.

Do something this week that fuels your divine spirit ✨️

Rachel Howzell Hall’s book is very sharp and well paced. The protagonist, Grayson Sykes, is a woman with a tough past and is also an investigator at a consulting firm. Her case involves Isabel Lincoln, who has disappeared. Grayson must find her.

She also has to keep her own identity secret from the abusive husband who wants to track her down and hurt her. Despite using all the latest search tools, the villain cleverly throws her off at every turn. Howzell Hall has a great voice, even in third person. She riffs on all kinds of things in LA, on TV, and even from books. This story has lots of twists and will keep you guessing until the very end.
