I've never aspired to be an "influencer"
But I do hope the content we share has encouraged just a few people to get out there with their dogs and have some fun!

I made this account to share my journey with my challenging husky mutt and maybe connect with a few other people with similar dogs. I never imagined I'd make genuine friends, learn from such knowledgeable professionals, pick up new hobbies, meet up with people IRL, and become a part of such a supportive community.

I know I've benefited greatly from other people posting about their dogs on social media. I hope Charlie and I can have a positive impact on those who see our adventures too. by @mutt.ofthenorth

The account name may be changing but the adventures are staying the same 💜

And with the name change, I figured I should re-introduce us. Scroll through the next few slides to read a little bit about me and Charlie.

So why the change? Well, I created this account when I realized the photos and videos of Charlie were going to quickly over take my personal account. I wanted a place that could be just about him. At the time, his floppy ear was the most defining feature about him. But he's so much more than just his appearance and this account has grown to be so much more than just cute photos and silly videos of him. I never even thought I'd post myself on this account.

So with the content evolving, and me making more appearances in the posts, it felt like we had outgrown charlie_with.the.floppy.ear

Charlie and I are both "of the north", we were born in northern Canada so that part includes us both. And I've always referred to him as a Husky Mutt so it was fitting to add that into the name too.

Hopefully, this account and the content we share will continue to grow with us. I think this name represents us better now.

I'm sure I'll miss the old handle every once in awhile, but it's not like his floppy ear is going anywhere 😂 by @mutt.ofthenorth

Comparison of Charlie's muzzles ➡️

I love all of Charlie's muzzles for different reasons. Check out the pros and cons on the following slides to learn more about the 4 muzzles we have tried!

@the.muzzle.movement : this is our newest addition to the line up. So far it has been great! Charlie is very comfortable wearing it and it fits him really well. There's plenty of pant room and he can take treats & drink water easily while wearing it. The sizing quiz was super helpful in finding the right muzzle for him.

@canine.steele : this was Charlie's second muzzle. I was tired of seeing his poor nose pushed up against the end of his Baskerville and I knew we needed to get him something customized to fit his face with adequate pant room. The process of ordering this muzzle was super easy! The hardest part was picking the biothane colours cause there were so many great options to choose from. This muzzle fits him perfectly because it was made exactly to his face measurements.

@thesighthoundclub : this was the third muzzle we added to the collection. Can we all please take a moment to appreciate how beautiful this colour is? This muzzle is super light weight and fits Charlie's long skinny face so well! It is perfect to pack on all our outings because of how light weight and flexible it is. Charlie is very comfortable in this muzzle and has even fallen into a deep sleep while wearing it.

@officialbaskerville : the Baskerville Ultra was Charlie's first muzzle. We bought it from one of our local pet stores when we realized training out Charlie's mouthy behaviour required more management and prevention in order to make progress. Unfortunately, he doesn't like wearing this one because he was forced to wear it a couple of times before I understood how to positively condition a muzzle and it doesn't fit him very well (too short). These are great for starting out muzzle training and for using in emergencies or for short periods of time.

And please think of us if you ever think about skijoring, and kicksledding, and canicross too

I know this account doesn't really have a "niche" besides it being a dog account but I think if I had to pick something to be known for here, I'd want it to be our Dog Powered Sports adventures.

These activities have become such an important part of our life together. I don't think either of us would be as happy as we are if we'd never started them.

So if you ever think about starting these sports or if you ever want to talk to someone about them or if you ever see someone out doing any Dog Powered Sports, I hope we pop into your thoughts 😂 by @mutt.ofthenorth

Happy Thanksgiving weekend to all our fellow Canadians ❤️🧡

Charlie and I are thankful for our family and friends, our healthy bodies that allow us to adventure together, the beautiful place we live in and explore, and most of all, we're thankful for each other.

I'm extra thankful for a long weekend cause the last two weeks at work have been hectic and I think I need a full day of just cuddling my pup, reading my book, and eating leftovers.

We all know and understand that bonding with a dog is such a special relationship. It's a joy unlike much else 🥰

But seeing that dog you love and cherish share a unique bond with others is just another level of beautiful. Especially when that dog has a rather small circle of people he truly cares about and loves.

Charlie and his dad have such a special love 💜 it's different from what Charlie and I have. Dog dad has been in Charlie's life just as long as I have, but because I took on the role of "primary human" Charlie sees me as his care giver, trainer, activity buddy, etc... where as dad is a friend, a hang out buddy, a snack dispenser, sometimes an authority figure, but mostly just a chill dude he can be comfortable around.

I love watching these two interact and share special moments together.
The two most important beings in my world.

And to wrap up his fun day full of birthday excitement, Charlie chewed on his Grass-Fed Beef Hide Roll from @littohowler

Yesterday was so much fun! He may not have known it was his birthday but I sure feel like the day was special for him.
I got to make all his snacks and meals extra special, we went bikejoring and he ran 10kms, he got to spend some time with his grandpa while watching the hockey game, and he ended his day chewing on his new Hide Roll for over 30mins. He barely even made a dent in the chew either, I'm sure it'll last him another 2 or 3 sessions.

Happy birthday to my baby boy 🥹 How is he 6 years old already?

It's true what they say "time flies when you're having fun".
I think I can confidently say, this past year has been the most fun out of all our years together so far and it has gone by so quickly.

We've been on some amazing adventures together and I already know this upcoming year is going to be packed full of adventures too.

Charlie picked my spooky reads for October 👻

With Spooky month just a few days away, I need to be ready to start my horror reading. Now I don't have to decide which one to read first, Charlie chose for me.

Potentially controversial opinion: I think it's fine to let your dog chew on a stick 🤷‍♀️

Charlie's idea of the perfect summer day always includes finding a good stick and shredding it to pieces.
I don't mind him entertaining himself like this cause I know he never purposely consumes any of it. If he does "eat" any, it would be just tiny pieces and it would have been accidental.

But if he was chewing sticks and eating the wood, I'd definitely be more diligent about stopping him and redirecting him onto a different activity.

So, in my opinion, it's okay to let them chew sticks IF you know they aren't eating them.

I've seen information online before that says to never let them chew on wood but, for Charlie, it seems pretty harmless so I'm going to let him continue doing this activity he finds joy in.

Let me know if I'm missing something. Besides maybe a splinter in his mouth, there doesn't seem to be much risk associated with it.

"How can you expect me to pose for photos when these treats are irresistible?" - Charlie probably

He's actually usually so good about leaving treats alone while I take photos 😂 I made him wait just a little too long on this occasion and he decided for himself that he deserved some payment for his hard work.
I'm not even mad about it, these are cute photos too.

Fun fact: "leave it" was one of the first skills we worked on and trained with Charlie because he seriously lacked any kind of impulse control. Within a few months, we were proudly showing off his trick of placing treats on his feet while he was laying down and then he waited until we said his release word. Our friends and family were quite impressed by his progress at that time. Little did I know, I'd end up developing a love for trick training with him and he's still learning cool new tricks to this day 🥰
