Had to get a shot of the orange moon that's appeared the last few days. Luckily the skies were clear and not too hazy. For my fellow camera nerds, I used a 1970s Sigma 500mm f8 mirror lens mated to my Canon M6 Mk II, 1/160@F8, ISO 800.

The area's biggest tube amp related highlight of the summer is the South Milwaukee Amateur Radio Club Swapfest. Lots of parts and other stuff (even smokers!). Like a big rummage sale, bring your stuff, take someone else's stuff home. What did I get? See the full version on Mutt Amps YouTube channel. And yea, the day hath come to cover the great many sins of the wood. Not that kind of wood you dirty buggers, just the scavenged plywood these amp head cabs are built out of. Covering is some industrial vinyl wallpaper I got at St. Vinnies, saved from a life in a soulless corporate office park or hotel. I always did love the mainly Chicago built amps that were basically covered on wallpaper or bookbinding material.

The weather is getting warmer in the Milwaukee area and it could be you walking Pete! He loves a good stroll around the block as much as he does just sitting next to you on the couch. He's gentle, quiet, and gets along with other dogs. He also does a great job of going outside and doing his business. Learn more about him and other great new best friends at Rescuegang.org.

Too cold to be outside so I started a new project - a 10-12W guitar amp that takes inspiration from Fender and Traynor. 12AX7 preamp, volume-treble-bass tone stack, fixed bias. For power I'm using a pair of old Soviet 6P43P-E tubes. I've never heard them used in a guitar amp but they are plenty tough. While you wait, check my link in bio to the Westminster/Winchester amp wrap-up on YouTube.

Pete is our latest foster, let's find him a new home! He is a gentle, quiet guy, 25-30 lbs., who loves a nice, warm spot on the couch next to you as much as a walk around the block. He's around 10 years old and gets along with other dogs; cats are unknown. He goes potty outside and is getting used to the snow and cold weather. He is very shy at first but will be an ideal companion for someone who will take the time to get to know him. Neutered and up to date on all his shots; microchipped too. All you have to do is love him, and that's pretty easy! He's available from @rescuegangmke, Rescuegang.org

Follow me into the weeds for some deep tube nerdiness... repairs on a couple of recently acquired - probably 80ish year old - field coil speakers. I love this primitive technology - I still think it's wicked clever the way they are engineered to be part of the power distribution as well as the output. You find lots of 12" FCs, and numerous 8" models but hardly ever 10", so when I saw these I had to snap them up. One is a Zenith, and the other fortunately had enough of its original sticker to identify it as a Jensen. Both have 1K fields and each has a single ended transformer mounted to the frame. Fortunately the fields showed continuity and the voice coils clicked to attention when I applied 9V. That said, there's no guarantee they will work properly but it's worth the gamble. I'm not going to tell you a FC speaker is better than a permanent magnet one, but I do think there's a little extra magic in the interplay of the field and the voice coil...
