Oscar Peterson was born in Montreal in 1925 and became one of the most dazzling pianists jazz has ever had. Legacy Amplified is our tribute to his centennial. ELEW, who came up in Elvin Jones's band and later played with Wynton Marsalis, shares the stage with the Jazz Houston Septet to play Peterson's music his own way.

What a week in Miami with our @jazzhoustonorg Youth Orchestra (JHYO)! 🎶
Through our residency with the University of Miami Frost School of Music and Shalala MusicReach Program, our students participated in inspiring masterclasses, workshops, performances, and jam sessions while also experiencing the culture of Miami—from Little Havana and Wynwood Walls to South Beach.

The highlight? Watching our students share their voices with confidence, thoughtfulness, and maturity during our final concert. I couldn’t be prouder.

This trip was about more than music. It was about culture, connection, leadership, and building relationships that can last a lifetime.
Our final night in Miami beautifully summed up everything we strive to instill in our students: the power of relationships. Our last hooray was a barbecue at the home of Vincent’s college friend and line brother, Frank Wesley—a friendship that spans more than 35 years and began when they played together in the FAMU Marching 100 Band. Frank graciously welcomed the entire Jazz Houston team to his home, where we enjoyed great food, fellowship, laughter, and even a game of basketball. It was a powerful example for our students to see how relationships built through shared experiences can endure and enrich our lives decades later.
