Prākṛtikākṛti, where ‘Prakriti’ means nature and ‘ākriti’ means form, is an explorative furniture series which was my graduation project. i found my direction in biomorphic design—an approach inspired by the organic, shaped through observation rather than function.—the series responds to nature instead of replicating it, focusing on the beauty nature already offers. The furniture series has two collections, one drawn from flora and the other from fauna. Its second collection, Paśhu Pakṣhī (paśhu meaning animal, pakṣhī meaning bird), draws from the quiet strength and presence of fauna, exploring form through posture, balance, and instinct. Using wood for its warmth, grain, and ability to hold shape while still feeling alive, the pieces move away from lightness and instead ground themselves in structure and silhouette. They are not direct representations, but reflections of how creatures exist — in stillness, in readiness, in subtle motion — with forms meant to be experienced rather than used, holding space for presence, memory, and quiet observation.

Pakṣikā — from pakṣa (wing) — draws from the delicate structure of a dragonfly’s wing, where geometry and translucence meet in quiet balance. Translated into a sculptural wooden divider, the form brings together lightness and precision through intersecting frames and latticed details that echo the fine veins of a wing — both structured and effortless. As light passes through, it shifts gently across the surface, recalling the way sunlight moves through wings. Crafted in wood, it makes air feel visible — a structure that holds yet feels almost weightless, standing as both screen and sculpture, offering privacy without fully dividing, and presence without heaviness.

The furniture series has two collections, one drawn from flora and the other from fauna. Its second collection, Paśhu Pakshi (paśhu meaning animal, pakshi meaning bird), draws from the quiet strength and presence of fauna, exploring form through posture, balance, and instinct. Using wood for its warmth, grain, and ability to hold shape while still feeling alive, the pieces move away from lightness and instead ground themselves in structure and silhouette. Jaljīva — derived from jala (water) and jiva (life) — draws from the fluid elegance of underwater life, particularly the soft, floating form of a jellyfish. The design captures the quiet rhythm beneath the surface, where movement is slow, instinctive, and continuous. Its flared, layered base echoes the gentle pulse of a jellyfish’s bell, while the top remains grounded, creating a balance between drift and stillness. Crafted in wood, the form brings together organic softness and structural weight, with grain and curves working to suggest motion even in rest. Not a literal form, but a memory of what is seen underwater, Jalajiva carries the calm, presence, and quiet depth of aquatic life into the spaces it inhabits.

Drishyādeep

Prākṛtikākṛti, where ‘Prakriti’ means nature and ‘ākriti’ means form, is an explorative furniture series which was my graduation project. i found my direction in biomorphic design—an approach inspired by the organic, shaped through observation rather than function.—the series responds to nature instead of replicating it, focusing on the beauty nature already offers. The furniture series has two collections, one drawn from flora and the other from fauna. Its first collection, Pushprābhā (pushpa meaning flower, ābhā meaning glow), explores light through the language of petals, using brass for its warmth, reflectivity, and ability to age gently over time, with pieces meant to be experienced rather than used, holding space for feeling, memory, and presence.
.
Drishyādeep — from drishya (that which is seen) and deep (lamp or light) — is a quiet reflection on the fleeting beauty of nature. It captures those in-between moments — fallen, dried leaves or flowers, a butterfly on a bloom, the branches of a tree, the delicate traces left by time. Each brass panel is embossed with fragments of the natural world — textured impressions that catch light differently through the day. When lit, the lamp reveals depth within these surfaces, as shadows and highlights shift gently across the hammered patterns. The play of light turns still metal into a living canvas — echoing the movement of leaves in sunlight. The brass sheet folds into a soft cube, resting on the metal frame like fabric draped over form — light, fluid, and quietly poised. Over time, the brass will darken and mellow, its patina adding to the sense of memory and age. Drishyādeep isn’t a window, but a memory box — a way to bring the outside in, and let it linger just a little longer.

Parāga

.
Parāga — derived from the Sanskrit word for ‘Pollen’ — draws directly from the intricate anatomy of flowering plants. The design celebrates not just the visual delicacy of blooms, but their quiet strength — especially the role of pollen, the essence of regeneration and growth. By placing the light source at the centre of each flower, nestled within the brass pollen forms, the piece highlights the reproductive organs of the plant — where life begins. Pollen, though barely visible in nature, becomes the heart of the design here. It glows, draws attention, and reminds us of the silent yet vital processes that sustain life. The choice of brass enhances this narrative — its warmth and reflectivity give a golden radiance to the ‘pollen’, lending it the quiet reverence it deserves. The wooden base anchors the piece, grounding the bloom and subtly reinforcing the connection between soil and flower, body and spirit.

Model study
.
These models were made during my time at Studio Inscape, Hyderabad, where model making became more than just representation—it became a way of thinking. Working hands-on with materials taught me patience, precision, and how architecture truly takes shape layer by layer. Very grateful for the learning, the guidance, and the quiet hours spent cutting, assembling, and understanding space in three dimensions.
.
Interlace - the Model of Pooja and Vivek’s Residence, explores a residence that unfolds gently into its landscape. With naturally lit basement spaces, open sit-outs, and an attached office with a separate entry, the design balances privacy and connection. The model, crafted in balsa wood, millboard, and cork, focused on clean 45-degree cuts, grain alignment, framed details, and detachable floors to express its layered planning.
.
Rooted - the Model of Balaram’s Farmhouse, reflects a farmhouse grounded in material honesty—brick, concrete, and a terracotta roof. From the curved brick wall at the entrance to courtyards that pull light deep inside, the design blurs indoor and outdoor living. The model highlights brick articulation and massing, emphasizing how light, openings, and landscape shape the experience.
.
Meld - the Model of Balaram’s Office, an office within a farmhouse setting, brings contrast through material play—mud-finished brick walls, a glass façade, and a terracotta roof. Built using balsa wood, acrylic sheets, and millboard, the model experiments with curved walls formed by soaked balsa and precisely slotted acrylic. Alongside it, a monochrome millboard model strips the design down to its essence, focusing on movement, gathering, and its calm relationship with nature.

Unfold
.
Unfold began with a simple brief: a functional seat that folds to under 100mm in thickness, it reimagines comfort and convenience through simple, thoughtful design. Built for compact spaces, it features a sturdy wooden frame that folds completely flat using a smooth pivot mechanism—no hinges, no fuss. The hand-woven rattan seat and backrest lend it a warm, familiar touch, while the gentle incline of the back provides a firm lower back support for relaxed sitting. When open, it becomes a quiet retreat for a morning coffee or an evening pause; when folded, it disappears into the background, waiting for its next use.

Todd’s Timepiece
.
Todd’s Timepiece is a grandfather clock imagined as a cinematic furniture piece for Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Set in the dimly lit barber room above Mrs. Lovett’s pie shop on Fleet Street, the space is charged with quiet menace—marked by a suspicious chest, a distorted mirror, and the infamous barber chair concealing a hidden trapdoor beneath. Positioned directly in front of the chair, the clock stands as a silent witness to these crimes, observing every act as time ticks on.
Shaped with exaggerated curves and expressive woodwork, the form draws from Tim Burton’s signature blend of whimsy and darkness, merging influences from his live-action and animated worlds. The slow tick and sway of the pendulum, paired with subtle light flickers and an off-centre clock face, introduce moments of unease and misdirection. More than a timekeeper, Todd’s Timepiece intensifies the atmosphere of the room—turning furniture into an active participant in the story’s unfolding tension.

Alankrit
.
Alankrit, meaning “to adorn,” is a floor lamp shaped by the ornamentation of Indian lacquer craft and marks my first furniture project. Indian lacquerware, one of India’s oldest crafts, dates back over 400 years and is first mentioned in Abul Fazal’s Aaine Akbari (1590 AD). Lac work is still practiced in the village of Nirona in Kutch, though by only a few artisans today. We learned the art of lacquer woodcraft from Popatbhai, one of its remaining practitioners, who guided us through the process. Inspired by this heritage, Alankrit blends traditional craft with modern aesthetics.
Crafted in Babool wood, its black-and-white palette quietly contrasts the craft’s usual vibrancy, offering a thoughtful way for the tradition to continue forward.
