I completed a hike on Prairie Mountain for a dear family friend of mine that passed recently. The Calling Lake Fire Rescue toque in the photos represent John Collyer, one of the nicest people you would ever meet in your life (Even during a fire call when things went sideways or when Barry threw his cigarette in the fire). @roseannaschmidt. Together, we completed firefighter training, vehicle extrication, and John headed up Search and Rescue for the FD. This involved him sending us the craziest GPS locations, but we learned! Together, we all volunteered to get up at 2 am when the radio went for a car accident and debrief at the fire hall afterwards with all the snacks. John would be your biggest cheerleader for anything you completed and I was lucky to have known him. You would never see him without a smile and a joke. John also took pictures of the most beautiful sunsets from their cabin in Calling Lake that you would ever see. I'll never forget those summer evenings at the dock on the lake at John and Diane's cabin hanging with Rosie. I'm so grateful for the time I spent growing up with John and Diane. @argyrus1608, I am so so sorry for you and your family's loss and my thoughts are with you. 💜 Rest in power, John. This show was a little extra special last night. 💜 I remember begging my parents at 12 years old to let me see Alanis Morissette with my sister Jaselyn (She begrudgingly took her annoying little sister with her). Sloan had opened for Alanis in Edmonton, my first concert. I wore the glitter eyeshadow, the merch T shirt, and sang my heart out. A few years later, her voice is still as sharp as ever. Rest in peace sweet Walter. Thank you for loving us as your own grandchildren for all of these years. Will forever remember your laugh, prayers for us, your humble spirit, and that tire gauge you always had in your shirt pocket. On the day of this photo, we were laughing about Cocoa the dog digging up the potatoes right behind you as you planted them in the garden. It had been well over a year since I got to see my own mom, sister, and nieces since COVID began. I didn't tell them I scored a hospital locum contract in Athabasca, right across the street from their place. Hardest secret I had to ever keep from them! It was nice to finally get back into running trails! I had lost my mojo for running last year after Fat Dog. Thanks to COVID-19 with race cancellations, it was actually a blessing in disguise to just enjoy running for fun and not as a deadline this year.
