MVICW’s Freeing The Muse 2026 was an absolutely magical time together on the beautiful island of Kefalonia! 💕🌈🙏❤️🇬🇷Thank you to the writers and faculty who made the 2nd offering of our Greece Program such a heart-filled success! And a deep thank you to our wonderful host, Sophie Kagadis, artist extraordinaire and executive director of the @ionion_center for welcoming us all so warmly and generously. An exquisite and transformative time was had by all! Here’s to a great year of programming and here’s to our return in 2027! ❤️🌈🥳 by @mvicw

It’s been the most incredible year. To end the summer celebrating it amongst a beautiful diverse group of voices handpicked by @mvicw on an island…was nothing short of magical.

Thank you to director Alexander Weinstein (past winner of NPR Book of the year, screenwriter for A24!) for reading and responding to my submission “Road Lust” which i’m happy to say has been accepted for publishing at @sneakerwavemag
this coming year.

From one island to another — what a joy to continue the summer of storytelling by joining the third session of the @mvicw (kicking off my birthday month as well). Continuing my work on my novel gifted me time to travel to Martha’s Vineyard with about 75 other creatives, with an opportunity to learn from my peers, engage in thoughtful and generative workshops, and learn some important lessons from our wonderful facilitators (even got a needed consult in the opening of the novel). Paired with the amazing experience in Ireland, these two retreats really revved up my writing this summer, readying me for the fast and furious fall travel schedule forthcoming. But I’m so elated to now be tethered to some wonderful writers who care to ideate and dream and dance and game and venture together! There will be plenty of pathways ahead for us to see each other again *cough*AWPinChicago*coughcough* and I look forward to seeing everyone’s work elevated as stories and books and collections get announced left n right!

And what an honor to hear our facilitators read their works aloud, but to also hear from peers share polished pieces or baby poems or sharing and storytelling greater works in progress. Though I’ve been working on my novel over this last year, I’ve never read a section of it aloud like I did on our last night, and it makes me hopeful for my project and the future this writing experience is taking me on!

it was a joy to spend the last week in Edgartown at the @mvicw conference on a Poet & Author Fellowship with so many talented writers! I took workshops on enneagram character development, poetry translation from song, how to write when it’s hard, fairy tales and retellings, and more. I wrote several scenes in my novel-in-progress, wrote a mythological flash fiction, nurtured new speculative ideas about Peter Pan and the pied piper, and wrote three poems (technically one I wrote in bed the night before the retreat). I returned to a short story about the end of the world that I had been struggling to finish for a long time, because I didn’t know yet how the story ended. I read a queer poem in front of everyone that I haven’t read out loud before. I met so many incredible writers, including our faculty @vogue316poetry @christophercitropoet @joydevabaglio @hannahbae @alexandrawallie @tapestryofink. I laughed. I cried (logged new Martha’s Vineyard cries!). I ate ice cream, and shared my love of making annual bingo cards as a goal reward system. ✨

I feel free and deeply grateful for the difficult daily work of being alive. I didn’t realize until I got on the ferry how hard I’ve been trying to still create beautiful art in the face of grief and stress and loneliness, to remain soft and loving and hopeful during a time that has presented me with so many reasons to forget hope’s name and what it looks like. Recently someone told me that it was nice to hear that I still have the fight to make the world a better place in me. The writers at this retreat also said it seems like I have a deeply loving community of friends who really love me. During an exercise we were asked to list who inspires us to write and I realized without even trying, I wrote down the names of almost every one of my closest friends. I am burdened by excessive friendship. Thank you for checking on me when I call. 💜✨

What an honor it was to be a 2026 Author & Poet Fellow at MVICW. This week was truly unforgettable.

Being surrounded by so many talented writers and artists was inspiring, affirming, and so much fun. The island felt magical, and every conversation, workshops, reading, and shared laughs reminded me why storytelling matters.

Thank you to the faculty and to all of my new friends for your kindness, encouragement, wisdom, and support. I can’t wait to read your books, hear your poetry, and continue cheering you on.

I leave knowing I belong in this community. ❤️
