The Columbus Rat is a legendary American traditional tattoo flash design created by the iconic traveling tattoo artist Stoney St. Clair (1912–1980).

Key Facts About the Columbus Rat
* The Creator: Leonard “Stoney” St. Clair was a traditional tattooer disabled by rheumatoid arthritis from age four, which confined him to a wheelchair. He spent 50 years traveling with circuses and carnivals—initially starting as a sword-swallower at age 15 before learning to tattoo—and eventually set up shop in Columbus, Ohio.
* The Design: The classic flash piece depicts a stylized, dapper rat wearing a top hat, a high-collared striped shirt, a vest, red circular glasses, and smoking a cigarette.
* Fame and Documentation: The design achieved legendary status after Stoney was featured freehand tattooing the rat onto fellow master tattoo artist Ed Hardy in the acclaimed 1981 documentary Stoney Knows How. taken in Sacred Ritual Tattoo by @mvrksm1th
