A wise bear once said, “Only YOU can prevent wildfires!” 🐻 Already this season, Metro Vancouver staff and local fire crews have responded to three fires in Pacific Spirit Regional Park.⁠
⁠
In 2022, a wildfire changed the landscape of Minnekhada Regional Park. Since then, the Foundation has been proud to support restoration efforts through the Minnekhada Recovery Fund, helping bring this special place back to life.⁠
⁠
Recovery like this doesn’t happen overnight, and it doesn’t happen alone. Thanks to the incredible work of Metro Vancouver Regional Parks staff, dedicated volunteers, @minnekhadapark, and our generous donors, native trees and shrubs have been planted to help restore wildlife habitat and build a healthier, more resilient forest for the future. ⁠
⁠
A few simple choices can make a huge difference:⁠
⁠
• Respect all fire bans.⁠
• Never toss cigarette butts or matches on the ground.⁠
• Stay on designated trails.⁠
• Pack out what you pack in.⁠
• If you see smoke or fire, call 911 immediately.⁠

And before you blame our cottonwood friends for your allergies ☝🏼, it’s worth knowing that true cottonwood allergies are actually very rare. We’re still on a hummingbird high after spending the morning with our Park Partners at Vancouver Avian Research Centre during a Hummingbird Banding Day at ƛ̓éxətəm Regional Park. From seeing hummingbirds up close to learning about migration, research, and conservation, it was a reminder of just how amazing these tiny visitors really are.⁠
⁠
Events like these help connect people with nature while supporting important research that helps us better understand and protect bird populations across our region.⁠
⁠
Want to help birds in Metro Vancouver’s Regional Parks?⁠

• Support organizations and programs that protect habitat and connect people to nature (like the Foundation and VARC!)⁠
• Plant native flowers that provide food and shelter⁠
• Add a clean water source to your yard or balcony⁠

• Make windows more bird-friendly to reduce collisions⁠

1. Create an account on iNaturalist and join the “Regional Parks Snap & Share 2026” project.⁠

2. Register through the link in our bio to be eligible for prizes. Everyone who registers and participates will enter a raffle to win a park prize pack.⁠

3. Explore any Metro Vancouver regional park or greenway between June 1–30, snap photos of plants, fungi, mosses, insects, birds, or wildlife, and upload your observations to iNaturalist.⁠
