Taking an L Ep.14 - Young Love ❤️

Taking an L is a dramatic monologue style conversation series on life, love and loss - real talk, no filters.

In Episode 14, Mwamburi reveals that there was something about young love that felt untouchable.
The way your hands would find each other without thinking. The warmth of a first kiss that stayed with you for weeks. The belief that love was the only thing that mattered - and when it ended, it felt like the world was ending too.

It wasn’t complicated. It was just pure.
What happened to that version of us?

Why do you think cults are a thing? | Taking an L - Episode 18.
I once heard a saying about the pulpit being the ultimate stage for an actor.
That enticed by the biggest stage, the biggest actors go on to become preachers.
As you can tell, both professions rely on godlike confidence, aura, or whatever you want to call it - Charisma: the ability to attract and influence others.

Could the existence of cults then be at least partly attributed to the fact that a lot of people don’t believe in themselves or trust their own opinions to the point they cannot resist following someone who not only shares their opinions but also has total self-conviction?

In Episode 18 of Taking an L, Georgina explores this line of thought and posits that “the people that command the stage regardless of whether they are right or wrong, win.”
Does this start to make sense?

Most people are sheep | Taking an L - Episode 17.

Most people will willingly give away their power to make decisions and follow blindly, if it meant that they could now worry less and sleep better at night, knowing they were someone else’s responsibility.

In episode 17 of Taking an L, Mwamburi opines that a majority of people would rather give in to social pressure and follow the masses than thinking independently.

A lot of people lack the nerve to stand up and be counted as having an unpopular opinion or a unique way of doing something. Also, they would much rather someone else lead while they follow which means they take less risks and reap the rewards of the herd mentality. But the majority isn’t always right and just because something is popular doesn’t mean it’s proper.

Have you encountered this before? Has independent thinking worked for you?

Taking an L Ep.16 - You don’t have children?

At your age, how come you don’t have children? This is a question a lot of people, especially millennials at one point or another, have had to fend off.
It seems like there is a lot of noise and opinions regarding having children, and everyone has something to say about it. Most times the question though harmless, always comes out wrong as though not having children points to some kind of defect.

In this episode, Mwamburi takes it on and attempts to provide a response that makes sense for him. In this day and age, we have so many unloved and uncared for children roaming around. What started out as an experiment to prove something to the world has had many ending up with responsibilities they are now forced to shoulder for the rest of their lives.
But it’s really not about evading responsibility, it’s about being intentional about it and being both willing and able to accord it the necessary resources.
What’s your take on this issue?

Taking an L Ep.15 - “I was greeted by your perfume.”

Taking an L is a dramatic monologue style conversation series in which two millennials - Mwamburi and Georgina - meet and fail at love, but what they manage to achieve is to reveal candid, raw and personal accounts on life, love and loss.

In Episode 15, Mwamburi describes meeting Georgina for the first time. How she looked so good that she seemed out of place. How he felt invisible to her yet gathered the confidence to approach her.
He in fact remembers Georgina removing her ear pods which she only kept on to discourage suitors she didn’t approve of. This becomes the premise of Mwamburi’s argument that men don’t really make the first move when it comes to dating. “Why do we keep saying men make the first move, when women have already decided the result?”

Is it really the man that makes the first move or is it the woman through non verbal cues (clues) that gives the signal so that a man knows he can approach?

Taking an L Ep.13 - Like Sheep to the slaughter.

Taking an L is a dramatic monologue style conversation series about life, love and loss - real talk, no filters.

In episode 13, Georgina questions why we celebrate Bible memorization but not financial literacy for African children?

African parenting needs a shift from rote religious learning to practical life skills that build independence, resilience, and critical thinking. Kids need decision-making skills, financial literacy, and digital skills like AI to thrive in the real world — not just scripture recitation.

It’s time for a generational shift in African education. Faith and culture matter, but so does preparing our youth for the 21st-century economy.

Taking an L Ep.12 - The Concept of Godliness and Suffering.

Taking an L is a dramatic monologue style conversation series about life, love and loss - real talk, no filters.

In Episode 12, Georgina reveals why some Christians subconsciously reject money and equate wealth with evil.

This episode unpacks the psychology of religious asceticism — the belief that earthly riches mean nothing compared to heavenly rewards. We explore how this mindset can lead believers to give away earnings, avoid financial growth, and cling to the idea of godliness through suffering instead of stewardship.

Faith and spirituality matter, but so does a healthy relationship with money. It’s time to rethink the connection between Christianity, wealth, and financial ethics for the 21st century.
