So, you’ve been thinking about doing things a little differently for your wedding reception. Let’s take a deeper look into Teresa and Jacob’s non-traditional wedding reception from last fall!

Starting with the venue, Teresa and Jacob wanted their wedding reception to feel like a vibey cocktail lounge, so what better place than The Skylark (@theskylarknyc). The cozy seating, mood lighting, and stunning city views really added to the cocktail lounge ambiance!

Now, let’s talk food! Instead of a seated dinner or buffet, Teresa and Jacob opted for passed apps that flowed freely all night long. Think of cocktail hour food, but all night long! This style of reception worked really well with their guest count of about 70 people. For larger groups, I recommend talking with your caterer for the best option!

Lastly, Teresa and Jacob decided to have the best of both worlds by hiring a phenomenal DJ AND a band (which was a total surprise for the guests). The blend of music kept the dance floor packed the entire night!

If you’re been thinking about switching things up for your wedding day, save this post for inspiration! My biggest piece of advice for couples who are looking to do things differently for their wedding is to look inward and think about what really speaks to you. Take what you like and change what you don’t! I promise you won’t regret making your wedding day exactly what YOU want!

Let’s take a step back in time to Annie and Ethan’s 1970s inspired home, complete with vintage records, painkillers, lava lamps, and a wardrobe that’s to die for🎶🧡🍹

Annie and Ethan are the go to people for all things vintage. For this shoot, we really wanted to play on the warm, grainy, and cozy 1970s aesthetic. Styled in clothes from their company @tableandthreadco, we told the story of a couple in the 1970s spending their Friday night together making cocktails and dancing around their living room listening to their favorite records!

A Late Night in Chinatown 🥟🥡❤️

I’d love to bring y’all behind the scenes of this shoot I did in Chinatown with my friends, Emily and Alex.

Instead of playing it safe and shooting during golden hour, I wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone by starting just after the sun set (blue hour).

I really wanted to capture the essence of Chinatown during this shoot like the bustling crowds, amazing food, and neon lights while still making it feel like Emily and Alex were in their own little bubble. I leaned into the beautiful blue hour and fluorescent tones rather than shying away from them, which I feel like added a lot to the ambiance I wanted to create!

An engagement session that doesn’t look like an engagement session ✨

Your engagement session doesn’t have to involve getting dolled up, wearing white, and going to a park for photos (no hate at all, I love those sessions equally 🤍).

Instead, Kelly and Dave opted for a much more casual and authentically them session. More than anything, it was really important to them that we spend time getting to know each other before the wedding day. Yes, we snapped a few pics on our way to dinner, but our main focus was just spending time together, learning about each other, and sharing some really good wine 🍷🥖🧀

No matter what we do for your engagement session, my ultimate goal is for us to spend time together and to get to know each other before your wedding day! For Kelly and Dave, they really wanted to lean into the documentary approach for their wedding day, so setting up this time for us to learn more about each other was essential to this approach.

Had the best creative refresh at @camp_cinematic this past month! I stepped outside my comfort zone and really pushed myself to try new things and I couldn’t be more thrilled with how everything turned out ❤️‍🔥 I think it’s so important to do/participate in creative shoots as photographers. It not only gives you the space to try new things, but it also provides an amazing opportunity to make new friends in the industry!

Imagine this…

You get ready together at your apartment in upper manhattan. You make each other a coffee, like you always do, before heading out the door to catch the train to your favorite happy hour spot. On the train, you talk about how excited you are to start this next chapter of your lives together. You think about what the future holds for you. Amidst the hustle and bustle of the West Village, you leisurely make your way to your favorite restaurant, The Mermaid Oyster Bar. Happy hour is still in full affect, so you order your go to— oysters and cocktails. You spend the evening laughing, eating good food, and watching people make their way home after a long work day.

Engagement sessions don’t have to be a big production if that doesn’t speak to you. Mellissa and Graeme wanted to honor this season of life by capturing a typical Thursday evening. A rainy, quiet wedding day in Brooklyn, NY 🤍🌧️

Despite the downpours and slight flooding, S + M’s cherished loved ones made it to their gorgeous wedding ceremony with nothing but smiles on their faces! Seeing the sheer happiness on their friends and family’s faces was truly a testament to how wonderful S + M are. Laughter echoed off the walls all night as S + M celebrated their union with their favorite people. It is always such an honor to witness wedding days like this. Nothing was going to stand in their way from celebrating one of their happiest days with the people who love them most 🤍

This post is for the guests that make your wedding day so special.

In a world where everything is becoming content, I wanted to take a step back for a moment and talk about one of the most important aspects of your day, the people you choose to share it with.

On a wedding day, I am always watching and observing the way your guests experience your wedding day. I listen for the excited screams as friends reunite after not seeing each other for a while. I pay attention to the way your guests admire you as you walk down the aisle. I notice the love in your eyes and the big grins that stretch across your face as you say your vows to one another.

Your guests bring such a beautiful and vibrant energy to your day. They add joy, whimsy, laughter, and excitement to your day. On your wedding day, I’ll always be watching carefully for moments like this so that you can truly remember what it felt like on your special day 🤍
