I am happy to share this new recording of “Aspiratio” by my friend Anton Koshelev (@ton.lev). It was premiered by me in Odessa, Ukraine in 2019, and holds a special place in my heart as both a reminder of and hope for better times. . It is a tour de force and contains both a relentlessness and deep contemplation and what it means to have ambition, aspiration. I hope my recording does it justice. . Find the whole piece on my YouTube (link in bio and story). . 🎥 : Domenic Clark (@domenicclark_videographer (with help from Andrew Clark (@andrewclarkmus) 🎙 : Me (happy for feedback!) Recorded Live at the Heron Park Baptist Church . #newmusic #contemporarymusic #vibraphone #livemusic #percussion #solo #recording #antonkoshelev #toronto #torontomusic by @mwmurphs
Happy one year anniversary to the #Cuphead DLC! . Obsessed with owning a physical copy of every CD I’m on, I bought the Deluxe Japanese edition for Switch back in April. Because a lot of this was recorded during the pandemic, I didn’t realize half of these people were on the CD until I opened the booklet! . Kristofer Maddigan wrote a killer score, so the recordings are not to miss checking out (Julian Decorte and Jeremy Darby did a fantastic job on the mix of course!)! . Video clip from the amazing Michael Fisher! The complete video is on YouTube as “Recipe for Ms. Chalice”. Catch me also in “Bourree on Board”. Here’s to the next year! 🍻 . #xylophone #ragtime #videogamemusic by @mwmurphs

Yu Kuwabara - Song of Stars 桑原ゆう : るりの歌、星のうた Michael Murphy – Percussion Setsujo Saito – Shōmyō マイケル・マーフィー（打楽器） 齋藤説成（声明） by @mwmurphs
Sharing the first photos and the first video from my recital in Tokyo this past May!
This is from Song of Stars (るりの歌、星のうた) by Yu Kuwabara, written for Buddhist ritual instruments and shōmyō (Buddhist chant). It was an honour to work with Yu and Saito-san, and especially meaningful to perform this beautiful piece at An’yōin Temple. I’m so grateful to Yu Kuwabara for composing this incredible work and for organizing everything. 🙏🏻 More videos and photos from the recital to come. Thank you to Hosaku Karouji for the wonderful photos. 📸 Full video now on YouTube with link in bio and stories. 👕: @_li.kai by @mwmurphs
The movie “Tuner” (with Leo Woodall, Dustin Hoffman, and Havana Rose Liu) had its Canadian premiere at @tiff_net this past week. Grateful to have recorded some percussion for the soundtrack with Marius de Vries and also for appearing in the film as part of the orchestra (apparently with a closeup, though I haven’t seen the film HAHA). Huge thanks to @lalaleepiano for getting me involved, all the photos, and for reminding me the film existed after all this time! 🙏🏻 by @mwmurphs
Nothing 🇮🇹 Italians ❤️more than… talking about Italians. Especially “our” inventions. Grazie 🙏🏻to whoever invented the Tamburello in the 1500s, likely somewhere in Southern Italy. 🤩 And Grazie! To the multi-music talented @mwmurphs for showing me the “uniquely” Italian technique. Tip for connecting to the kid inside: 🎶💃🏻🎨🧶Music, dance, painting or crochet (seriously, it’s back in fashion), whatever ⁉️ It’s never too late to learn! 😎 Anyone wanna start a “Banda”? #lifelonglearner #keepitfun #italianfolkmusic #tamburello by @mwmurphs

What do you get when you mix a classical cello, an Indian harmonium, an electric guitar, a Korean pansori singer, and drums from every continent? A delicious jam 😋 @rashaanroriallwood is one of my fav Instagram channels nowadays; this guy plays all the keyboard instruments you can imagine from organs to virginals Moog synths, early music to jazz to contemporary. We are blessed to hear him bring Indian raags to us on the harmonium! @mwmurphs is like a brother. He’s fluent in (at least) 4 languages, and performs regularly in Japan, Germany, and Canada. He recorded the marimba solo in the recent Cuphead game soundtrack. Not only is he a sought-after chamber player, he’s got the orchestral chops, too. @jay.m.yoo is one of the nicest dudes on the block, but plays some mean jazz guitar. Have you seen his pedalboard?? He has regular gigs playing genres like anime and Studio Ghibli but also traditional Korean culture. He also introduced me to… @pansori_into, who is a PhD (Pretty Huge Deal) in Ethnomusicology! Ever since moving to Canada, she is active in promoting Korean pansori traditions through her workshops and community programs. — It’s our final ROSYLAND, so we hope you can join us! The sun sets earlier so join us in the afternoon to party longer! 🎨 5:30 PM – OPEN JAM - Play with us! 🎶 6:30 PM – Live Concert Experience 🤗 7:30 PM – Meet & Greet with Musicians 🌙 8:00 PM – Event Ends These events are part of @artsintheparksto and are free to attend, thanks to the support of @torontoartscouncil, @torontoartsfoundation, @lidelunmusic, and @the.mptf. by @mwmurphs
