Twenty-two bio-designed pieces, choreographed once, then reborn as light.

For a haute couture catwalk, dancers wore pieces grown from local grass seeds into a textile intertwined by the roots and shoots, then hand sculpted and transformed with algae.

Each piece was designed from the start to become lighting after the performance. Each light is a one off design.

These pieces were grown from plants and their intertwined root systems. Water and captured CO2, a little time, and the living does the rest: it germinates, spreads and weaves itself into textile. From there, every piece is shaped by hand, from sketch to sculpture, the living giving the material, the hand giving the form.

Worn by the dancers on the runway, they will soon be reborn as luminaires, this coming September.

The Root Lamp — a lamp made from a textile grown from plant root cultures. As it grows, the material captures carbon during its fabrication.

This year, she brought something new in addition to the tennis ball creations we already know and love. For the first time, Mathilde Wittock shared her luminaires with us.
