Maplewood’s stabling, turn-out and training facilities are designed to accommodate a variety of riders and horses, from beginners and green/young horses to top-level competitors. Maplewood boasts an expansive indoor arena, two large outdoor arenas, dressage court and multiple round pens for training.

⭐ 2024 CPHA Lifetime Achievement Award ⭐

We are delighted to honor Julie Winkel as the recipient of this prestigious award, which recognizes an equestrian whose lifetime dedication and accomplishments have elevated the sport of horse showing and enriched the equestrian community.

Julie Winkel is a true icon in the equestrian world—a highly respected trainer, judge, clinician, and educator. Holding USEF R-rated licenses in multiple disciplines since 1984, she has judged and designed courses for many of the nation’s most distinguished events, including the ASPCA Maclay Finals and USEF Medal Finals. As a Grand Prix show jumper and hunter competitor, her achievements in the ring are as impressive as her contributions outside of it.

Julie’s passion extends to volunteering and shaping the future of the sport. She has served on numerous influential committees, including co-chairing the USEF Licensed Officials Committee and contributing to the USHJA Emerging Athletes Program Task Force, ensuring her impact reaches far and wide.

Join us in celebrating Julie Winkel’s extraordinary career and hear from her personally at the CPHA Year-End Banquet!

📍 Location: Los Angeles Equestrian Center

There’s something pretty special that happens when professionals at different stages of their careers get in a room together.

As Julie Winkel shared, the younger trainers bring an energy and enthusiasm that can reinvigorate those who have been doing this for decades, while getting the rare opportunity to learn from professionals with a lifetime of experience behind them.

CPHA Foundation scholarship recipient Katie came home feeling exactly that.

“I came home so inspired and excited to work with my next crop of babies. I had ideas for every single baby that I have.”

And maybe even more importantly, she couldn’t wait to share what she learned.

“I was so excited to come home and pass on new information to them to help continue to teach the next generation of our trainers.”

That exchange of knowledge, ideas and enthusiasm is what makes opportunities like this so valuable. One experience doesn’t end with the person who attends. They bring it home to their horses, their students, their barns and the next generation of our sport.

And this opportunity comes around every September. In addition to Julie Winkel’s Young Horse School, there are several ways to continue your education, including the Course Designers School, Judging School for Hunters & Equitation, and a Trainer Symposium West.

Look out for grants offered next year through CPHA and Julie Winkel or guarantee your spot by signing up at maplewoodstables.com. We hope to see you there! taken in Maplewood Stables by @mwstables
