A big day in Fayetteville🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

Pau Valderrama captured the McDonnell Memorial 8K title with a time of 24:02.8, earning his second individual race victory at MoWest. Hemistone Cheruiyot added a top-25 finish as the Griffon men placed sixth at the 38th Annual Chile Pepper Festival.

The Griffon women put together a strong performance in the Prairie Fire Pepper 5K, finishing third out of 27 teams. Magdalena Jakubowska led the way in 12th with a time of 18:46.7, while Laila Munoz finished 23rd.

🌶️ Women: 3rd

Griffon Cross Country heads to Agri Park Saturday for the 38th Annual Chile Pepper Festival, competing against programs from across multiple levels of collegiate competition.

The Griffon men will take on a 24-team field, while the women are set to compete among 38 teams.

MoWest returns to the course after competing at the Southern Stampede on Sept. 19 in Joplin. Pau Valderrama led the men with a third-place finish in the 8K, clocking a time of 24:10.93. The performance earned Valderrama MIAA Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors.

“We look forward to the opportunity of running on a fast course in a large competitive field of athletes,” Head Coach Sean Gosewisch said. “This may be one of our last chances to really scorch it since most of the rest of our season is on tougher courses, so I'm looking to see some PR's and good race intelligence. I expect a fun time.”

Strong showing in Joplin 🏃

Pau Valderrama and Hemistone Cheruiyot finished 3rd and 4th in the men’s 8K, while Bailey Taig added a 13th-place finish at the Southern Stampede.

Magdalena Jakubowska paced the Griffon women, crossing the line 40th in the 5K.
