This reel was started in January. We got a little behind on posting on our page. Terminating bypass is when perfusionists earn their money. We transfuse the patient's blood back into the heart by restricting venous return. The heart now has blood to squeeze. We didn't show coming off bypass. What does a cardiovascular perfusionist do? A perfusionist is a trained professional who uses special equipment to support or temporarily take over a patient’s heart or lung function when needed. They know how to choose and use the right machines and work with doctors to decide on the best methods. During surgery, their main duties include:
📈 Monitoring & managing cardiopulmonary bypass systems
🩸 Adjusting blood flow, body temperature, & levels of gases in the blood
💊 Administering medications through the bypass circuit as directed by the surgical team
💉 Maintaining acid-base balance & coagulation status
