Introducing SUPERNOVA!!!!

This weekend at @tryst.la art fair you can experience the debut of the first piece of a series - “SUPERNOVA; a Pre-lamented Lachrymose Lounger. This is a preview of a new body of work entitled “Le Blah Blah Blah de la Corbeille.”

Grateful to @offus_dtla gallery and to @alanbeingalan and @noelalumit their gentle push to usher this new work into the world.

The deadstock wool is embroidered with text and adorned with both hand and machine needle felted images. “Hopes and Dreams.” glows under needle felted wool clouds. “Forever” floats amidst the felted subaru stars. “Forever” is embroidered with pink outline and faint orange fingerprint detail fills the letters. Camouflaged by thread that matches the wool background, the cliff notes version of my soon to be ex wife’s last birthday gift to me - “GET out, GET a job, GET over it” is emblazoned. Unceremoniously dumped on the curb like trash, I was reminded I am indeed a SUPERNOVA. I happen to also be an artist who gathers and makes art out of trash.

The performance component of the work is experienced by scanning a QR code that offers viewers an intimate glimpse behind the actual blood, sweat and tears that goes into making the work. by @mx.springrolls

We are thrilled to be back at Tyrst next week. Come by and check out art from all over the world! by @mx.springrolls

Yesterday was my cancerversary - the day they found my cancer 4 years ago. This week, I had a PET scan (my first), a CT scan and and ultrasound. My oncologist was concerned I have lost so much weight. people cheer on weight loss, but for me it has other complicated implications - could just be my post break up glow up, could be straight up malnutrition, or could it be a sign of metastasis, yikes. Unlike the kind of cancer that you are home free when you clear the 5 year mark, my particular kind of cancer can lay dormant for 5, 10, 15, and in some cases 20 years, even if I am currently NED (no evidence of disease). If one little fucking random cancer cell comes back, it doesn’t return at stage 2, it comes back as the beginning of the end.. it will always live in the back of my mind, the threat of return, burrowed in a rut of anxiety threatening to become a trench. You can see why every scan, every blood draw causes such extreme scanxiety for me. My cancer was not seen on mammogram, it was only discovered by an ultrasound.

Grateful for my friends/chosen family who ferried me to scans this week and fêted me with lunch tours without judgement, without dismissing or denying or minimizing my scanxiety.

Grateful for the barbie breakfast and lunches to buoy me before the scans. Xanax for the win.

Grateful for the Vietnamese PET scan technician born the same year as me, brother tiger who made me feel comfortable and safe like I was being cared for like family. This is why all Vietnamese address one another as brother, sister, cousin, uncle, auntie. We are all related somehow.

Grateful that at my ultrasound on Friday, I was able to finally thank Olga, the ultrasound technician who originally found my cancer. I was able to tell her in person, thank you for saving my life. 4 years ago to the very day, just another day at work for her, because she is stellar at her job, that day completely changed my life. We cried and we hugged. I still have to bring her disco lights for her ultrasound room.

Most of all I am grateful for clear scans all around.

Celebrated cancer free me with a little crab dinner.

It is the end of an era. Truly crushed to have to say goodbye to the studio. Such an amazing space with the raddest artist neighbors. So grateful for all the craft nights and chinga la migra shirts and skills shares and coworking and community building and world building and dream sharing this studio has offered. As any artist knows, moving house nbd, but moving art studio, now that is a whole other beast. Yo it takes a village. Y’all know it can be so hard to ask for help and my people came through and showed up. Thank you to uncle D’Lo for sponsoring pizza for packing party. I may not have any money but this chosen family is worth all the ingots and all the gold in the world.

You probably won’t believe it, but I even returned some things that I procured from the trash to the trash, I swear, there are witnesses. Please enjoy this last photo of me on my mountain of trash that I have collected and gathered and saved from the landfill. A huge bag of fake peaches and foam fish, why yes, yes I do need that. Broken rocking chair, I can fix that. Bean bag that survived the altadena fire, I can give it a new life. Making art from trash is my jam. Imma take my trash and go.

Extra special thanks to the @calfund and @gettymuseum for honoring me with the fellowship in visual arts and funding to make the studio space and time to dedicate to my art practice possible.

That time when the Queer Student Union brought Rev. Jesse Jackson to UCSB for No on prop 209. Storke Plaza was packed and overflowing. Biggest crowd on campus we had seen in years of organizing. we were all patting ourselves on the back for having the pride flag on the podium as both a nod to the rainbow coalition but also for queer visibility. This was 1996 I think. That is me and @blinker4life at the podium introducing Jackson. @so_cal_luchador actually had to pick Jackson up at the airport and has all the chisme ha.

Friends and fans,
It pains me to share this announcement, but after 6 seasons, #subaruheights has officially been canceled. no more adventures of #geoandjeffy. No, we are not getting pushed to streaming.
If there were meetings about the cancellation, I was not present, nor did I have a proxy or even get the minutes. I probably need a new agent.
I learned so much from #subaruheights playing a role written for me that I did not author. My costar deserves a SAG award nomination for their truly stellar performance. Now, I am free and get to write my own story.
Stay tuned for the spin off series #subaruheightsthedivorce which starts now.

This divorce brought to you by Subaru and the Hallmark channel and wine.

As I prepared to pack up and break down the set last fall…

Me at the women-owned women’s wine wine shop (WOWWS):

WOWWS girl:
How are you doing?

Me:
Terrible

WOWWWS girl:
Well, I hope we can help!

Me:
Indeed, I do hope you can.
we celebrated our nuptials with wine from here, and I would love to get some boxes to celebrate and honor our impending divorce.

WOWWWS girl:
Oh I’m so sorry to hear that. Or maybe that is a good thing? ok that is amazing! Yes. So, to clarify are you looking for cases of wine, or boxed wine?

Me:
Actually, I was looking for actual boxes for which to pack up my life and place within, in order to transport it all to who knows where.

WOWWWS girl:
Oh, we have that too.

How many do you need?

Me:
I will take as many as you have

I wish I could say it was bittersweet, but I can only say it is most certainly not sweet.

New year, new me, who dis? Neo geo is here. 2025 was a doozy. Terrifying, clarifying and edifying. So grateful to my family and friends who held me, laughed, celebrated, crafted and cried through it all with me. This past year truly tested me, pushed me to the edge and then over it. I had no other option except to alchemize and transmute it all and level the fuck up. As I evolve in to my most authentic self, I feel like I am more geo than ever. Going forward please call me geo. As a gentle reminder, my pronouns are they/them. So, here’s to a new timeline. Going into 2026 with the energy of this hawk I recently met, 360 vision, feast, and abundance. Ok 2026, let’s do this. by @mx.springrolls

Happiest holidaze out here in Hooooton, Texassss the O’Briens style. We out here eating our way through the end of the year together. We right here! I rolled into town with 2 lbs of yellowtail sashimi, some bluefin tuna and a lil chunk of smoked bluefin tuna. Mom broke out the rambutan. Busting our way through Katy Asian Town slaying some somi somi soft serv, baking up 3 different kinds of cookies back at the ranch. Not pictured, mom’s never ending bûche de Noel. Truly a crossroads of everywhere and nowhere here in this part of Texas. WOW you’re here! We had Thai noodles, curry and bento boxes at the same place, we had Peruvian Vietnamese together. Persian linner. Khoreh Fesenjan and Tal chin and kebab koobideh oh my. $99 Peking duck meal special. Dim sum and then some. Here’s to closing out the year with family, a feast, or two, or three, or more to usher in the abundance of 2026. RIP 2025 cookie handling the beat and vibes here. Grateful to eat down the rest of 2025 with my family. No leftovers. by @mx.springrolls

Seesters on a road trip. Somehow in the middle of nowhere we enjoyed the largest chicken tenders ever seen AND samosas. Gas station with fried chicken, curry, gulab jamun and rose lassi! Wut? Blinked and almost missed New Mexico, but it was enchanting. Pups have been loving dog parks to themselves and king beds along the way. First BBQ of the journey in Junction, TX. The Buc-ees beaver guides us all the way to our destination, just past the freeway off-ramp that deposits you in beaver land, on the other side of wall to wall jerky and floor to ceiling fudge and the hundredth gasoline pump is home for the holidays. by @mx.springrolls

Thank you to all who came through @offus_dtla OFFUS Gallery in the Bendix Building for my two person show Blanket Statements with @ryandebonville . So grateful for @alanbeingalan and @noelalumit for curating this show, and all the hard work they are doing to showcase artists especially Queer art and making space for the work to tell the story. I had so much fun and truly the deepest engagement with folks who came through, yakking about the conceptual foundations of my work. Super stoked that my work resonates with people so much so that I not only have some new fans, I sold 7 pieces and, even garnered a couple commissions. Shout out to top fans @lsantiman @graciasmil @facsimile for supporting QTBIPOC artists.

I am feeling so much abundance of love and support and alignment. This little show was an affirmation - I am not small, you can hear and see me coming from space. THIS IS MY INSIDE VOICE.
