October is Physical Therapy Month, and our PTA Program celebrated with PT Day! 🏃‍♀️

The afternoon was led by our Physical Therapist Assistant students, who guided visitors through activities and demonstrations on how PT supports everyday health. Dr. Uwumarogie recaps the day and shares one simple habit that can make a real difference for your health. Watch to the end for it.

✨ Connections. Conversations. Career Possibilities. ✨

What an incredible turnout for our 2nd PTA Networking Event, hosted and led by our amazing PTA Club!

This event brought together Pre-PTA students and undecided students from outside of the PTA Program for an opportunity to explore what their future career path could look like and hear directly from professionals in the field.

Students had the chance to network, ask questions, and hear different perspectives from PTAs, PTs, PTA alumni, personal trainers, and other professionals—giving them a broader look at the many different paths and opportunities within rehabilitation, health, fitness, and beyond. 🤝✨

And WOW… what a turnout! 🙌 This was our second Networking Event, and it continues to grow and grow! It was so exciting to see even more students come together, make connections, and explore possibilities for their future.

A huge thank you to our PTA Club for organizing and leading such a meaningful event, and to all of our alumni, professionals, and guests who generously shared their experiences, advice, and perspectives with our students.

We love creating opportunities for students to connect, explore, ask questions, and envision where their own career path could take them! 🌟

10 Years of Learning, Connection & Collaboration! 🎉

We were excited to welcome the second-year UIC DPT students to Malcolm X College for our 10th annual PT–PTA collaboration!

This annual experience gives our PTA students the opportunity to connect with future physical therapists, share perspectives, and learn more about how PTs and PTAs work together as part of the rehabilitation team.

For our students, it’s a chance to step outside of the classroom and put collaboration into practice—strengthening communication, learning from one another, and gaining a greater appreciation for the unique contributions each profession brings to patient care.

We are especially proud to celebrate 10 years of partnership between the Malcolm X College PTA Program and UIC’s DPT Program. What started as a collaborative learning experience has grown into a meaningful tradition that continues to bring future PTs and PTAs together and understanding of one another.

🤝 Learning Together: The PT–PTA Partnership

Last week, our second-year UIC DPT students had the opportunity to connect and learn alongside Physical Therapist Assistant students from @mxcollege during an interactive educational session.

Experiences like this give our students an important opportunity to better understand the PT–PTA relationship, the distinct roles each brings to patient care, and the importance of communication and collaboration across the physical therapy profession.

Building these connections while still in the classroom helps prepare future PTs and PTAs to work together effectively as members of the rehabilitation team and ultimately provide better care for the patients and communities we serve.

A special thank you to our colleagues at @mxc_pta for hosting our students and helping create such a valuable learning experience!

We are so proud to celebrate our very first apprenticeship — and the incredible student who made this milestone so meaningful!

A heartfelt thank you to the amazing partners who made this collaborative vision a reality:

✨ CCC Career Launch
✨ATI Physical Therapy
✨MXC Personal Fitness Training Program
✨MXC PTA Program

Together, we created an opportunity for our first apprentice, Lizette Galvez, to gain real-world experience, build her confidence, and develop the skills she needed to grow. And the results speak for themselves — Lizette is now getting into the PTA Program!

This is exactly what the apprenticeship model is all about — students earning college credit, getting paid, and walking away truly prepared for their future. Lizette's journey is proof that when we work together, we can change lives.

This is just the beginning! We can't wait to see what's next.
