POSTS STORIES REELS

@sephorauk’s 1st UK #Sephoria was so much fun! #sephorialondon! So many cool brands and experiences.

Thanks for the invite @blackandwhitecomms by @mxdarren_

Hi, I’m Darren! 👋

Feels like the right moment to properly introduce myself again.

I’m a content creator and makeup enthusiast, though that undersells it a bit, really it’s a love of personal identity and storytelling that sits at the centre of everything I do.

I make content across Instagram and TikTok, from makeup reviews and tutorials to MUA deep dives, and I love bringing people along to events, drag shows, exhibitions, wherever the creativity is happening.

I host @turninglewkspod, my Substack (and podcast) where I chat to people working in and around the makeup world, and write essays on beauty, trends and the industry itself. It’s one part of what I do, but it’s close to my heart. My writing has been featured in Attitude Magazine, Pink News, Gay Star News and Frontrunner Magazine, and I co-edited a zine for @genderswap_.

I’ve modelled for brands like Sheep Inc., London Heathrow, Directions Hair and Sophie Cochevelou, and trained in styling at @lcflondon_, where I found my love for the story behind what we wear.

In 2022, @attitudemag named me one of their 101 LGBTQ+ Trailblazers, which still doesn’t feel real to say out loud.

This page is where all of it lives, beauty, culture, fashion, and whatever I find myself curious about next.

Glad you’re here x

Handsome Vampire guy along the @kewgardens Halloween trail: want to join me, live forever and be my eternal slave?

Me: Sounds like a vibe.

Him: It is a vibe!

I guess you can call me a sub vampire now? 🤷

Hi skeleton man

This one just gives holloweeny vibes rather than actually being anything remotely related to Halloween. 🎃

Loved how this lewk came out and watched to shout out the products used! @makeuprevolution @maccosmeticsuki @collectioncosmetics_uk @vo5

A new era of my #personalstyle is incoming so I’m having to make some changes to #myfashion … let me explain.

Stop trying to be an aesthetic.

An aesthetic is a mood board. A vibe is you showing up as yourself without needing a name for it.

You don’t need a “core.” The most stylish people I know can’t be summarised in two words and a colour palette. They just have a strong sense of self and dress like it.

Personal style isn’t a category you fit into. It’s proof you stopped asking permission.

I’ll always love cool, grungy colours. That hasn’t changed. But I’m allowing myself to see the bigger picture, and how other shades can do other tricks. 🤎

What’s your go-to way to shape your face: contour, bronzer or blush? Tell me below.

We all talk about A/W and S/S but we never talk about S/A and W/S… you know when it’s still warm during the day but cold in the mornings and evenings or when it’s actually not that warm but the sun is shining that kinda heats the day up. Anyway here are my current between seasons fits.

#LFW over and out! I do love to see up and coming designers work, to see what innovations are out there (that’s not robots walking the runway 🙄).

Was such fun working on an actually @londonfashionweek scheduled show! (And obviously getting to attend too!)

Roll on more shows for A/W27 👀

There was a time when queer fashion on the dancefloor was a language: coded, deliberate, a way of saying I know who I am and I am here on purpose.

Every era had intention, the war paint, the sweat, the cardboard maximalism. We built something incredible in those clubs. Somewhere along the way we swapped it for
“comfortable” and called it a day.

This isn’t a call to go back to any specific era (although if you want to turn up in a Leigh Bowery-inspired sculptural bodysuit, I will not stop you). It’s a call to bring the intention and individuality back.

Full blog on what we lost (and how to get it back) is on the Substack.
