I had such a wonderful weekend with amazing friends and incredible animals!

On Saturday we went to the grand opening of the Legasea Aquarium, definitely go check it out if you’re in town!
On Sunday, my friend Charli invited us up to the Wilderness Trails Zoo, which is only an hour north of the Legasea.
They have so many incredible ambassador animals and we had a great time learning about all of the conservation programs and expansions that are in the works for this incredible little non-profit zoo! It is truly such a peaceful, special little place! The zoo was opened more than 30 years ago and just changed hands last year. I can’t wait to go back to see all of their visions come to fruition!
Charli mentioned an ambitious goal of making the entire zoo and animal encounters fully accessible. As someone who’s relied heavily on mobility aids, it makes my heart smile to hear that they have a goal of being inclusive to guests who otherwise wouldn’t be able to get up close and personal with these critters. Speaking of that; I was able to walk all around this weekend without using my walker or wheelchair! It feels surreal to be where I am right now, and I don’t take any moment for granted! taken in Wilderness Trails Zoo by @mxddiemoo

New Year, New Puppy! 🐾

After more than a year and a half waiting for my perfect pup, I was matched to this boy at the beginning of December!

I was dead set on getting a puppy from his sire, and the female he was paired to couldnt have been more perfect. I’m just so thrilled!

He is already proving to be such a fun, chaotic little partner and I can’t wait to see what kind of adventures we will have!

Instagram, meet my new baby - Cleo!!
Cleo is a 13 year old female green winged macaw that I adopted at the beginning of December through Project Parrot. Although we have two other parrots, Cleo is my first personal large bird!
Her owners hand raised her in their pet store, and did such a wonderful job socializing her. Now that they are closing the store, they were hoping to find a home for her that would spend lots of time with her and keep her fully flighted; which is perfect for us, since we are home most of the time and do not clip our birds.

Cleo was allowed to eat what her people ate, which made her very willing to eat new, healthy foods that we offered her. I anticipated switching her diet would be incredibly difficult, but she has taken to a healthy pellet very quickly! She was pretty vitamin deficient, and was battling a pretty nasty bacterial and fungal infection, all of which we’ve been combatting over the past month using a mixture of medications and supplements. Her beak was pretty overgrown and very flaky, and her feather condition was dull according to our vet. In only one short month, we’ve really seen her beak and feather condition improve as we keep up with supplemental vitamins and a healthy, appropriate diet. She’s also been wearing her beak down naturally by chewing on wood and cracking whole hard shelled nuts!🌰

We’ve been working on recalls around our house and targeting, which she’s been excelling at! She is loving to both Tyler and I, and willing to come to both of us.

I’m so excited for our future together and to watch this pretty girl continue to blossom!

Mushu’s 16th Hatchday!!
I promised that I’d do something special, so I threw him a Sweet 16 party!

A few of his descendants showed up; Pinnacle (green hat, great grandson), Olimar (blue hat, great great grandson), and Rendezvous (red hat, great great grandson). He has five great great great granddaughters here who unfortunately couldn’t make it because they’re on maternity leave from my shenanigans at the moment.

We got him just what he asked for—Crickets and a 2022 red Toyota Corolla ❤️
He also blew out his own candles!! 🎂

Shoutout to our besties (@thegeckogarage) for showing up and celebrating with us, and to @gekkonidazed for producing him way back in 2009! by @mxddiemoo
