Our performative dinner Time out of Time on September 12 turned out to be not only a perfect evening but also a successful community gathering of artists, researchers, scientists, designers, communicators and multidisciplinary workers. Thanks my fellow organisers @chenshuyu.csy @peach_colony and @byelinfrost and artists @petra_lilja_mineralia who@designed the table, @a.gedin for dyeing and printing messages on the serviettes, to Masoud Ahmadzadeh for your ghostly saxophone appearances, to @its.fascia for creating a meta soundspace and to Kristian Eliasson for fading out a massive frequencies echoing into the September night.

The event took place at Hage, a public space designed by @brendeland_kristoffersen and commissioned by @raangen. Many thanks for great support. Also thanks to @gulleds for the lights, to Entreprenadställningar for the mesh curtains, to @lokal4_pembertochcompany for the excellent 3-course dinner, to LU Innovation and @maxivlaboratory for support with communication, tables and chairs.

The European summer tour, part 3/4.
Arriving in Brussels by car driving straight through the pedestrianised EU quarters, then sliding over to Ganshoren in the West to find a perfect spot right in front of the sleek apartment facing a park with panorama windows and an immaculately personal organised collection of music, all thanks to the guestpoints we had collected on Homeexchange and a perfectly generous host

Reuniting with our beloved friends @elsvis and @miguel_steel_lebre giving us the warmest of welcomes and a city tour with all the classic spots in the still delightfully enjoyable setting summer sun.

12 years later still looking and feeling better than ever

Some nice buildings by good architects in a not very urban configuration. Yawn.

High density urbanism à la OMA in Anderlecht. City Dox. Again, building quality far better than Sweden. Urbanism? Modernism on speed.

The European tour 2026, part 2 of 4.

More from Cologne and @kolumba_artmuseum, which even managed to impress and challenge our younglings. It became our last stop in Germany on the way down.

Only 3 hours from Cologne is #Metz, a historically contested city along the Mosel river and under German rule for 48 years until 1918, but currently unmistakably French. Had a lovely dinner and evening walk through the city and its canal and public squares. The main purpose was of course to visit @centrepompidoumetz_ the branch of the National museum which opened in 2010 and designed by @shigeruban. The large tent-like canopy supported by interlocking wooden beams and columns is striking and very well executed, and the interstitial spaces between the membrane and the boxes inside it is spectacular. The exhibition spaces are generous and varied, with three big exhibitions, all very well presented and curated. Apart from the Maurizio Cattellan-curated collection show, the also had two retrospectives, avantgardist sculptor Louise Nevelson and my personal favourite, modernist (and to a degree minimalist) François Morellet. So much work that I hadn’t seen before and impeccably presented.
Only France would build a national museum of such ambition in a city 1/3 the size of Malmö and then fill it with the treasures of their collection.

Finally late on day 4, we reached our destination: A petit chateau outside St Marc-sûr-Seine, in the North part of Bourgogne. Our hosts @alessandro_rolandi and Virginie treated us to wild boar stew, pastas and tennis games on the hill, and we explored the huge 19th century villa and its 10 bedrooms, gender-separate studies and oak panelling. Visiting the charming city of Flavigny-sur-Ozerain and the Fontenay abbey, built in the 12th century, with its unique water-powered iron forge and austere Romanesque architecture by @mxgrthl

The European tour summer 2026, part 1 of 4

Malmö - Hamburg by train, a real delight traveling with #snälltåget and with an unexpected 45 min stop in #Odense which made it possible to browse the landscape and exterior of H C Andersen’s House by @kkaa_official. Have to come back!

Next day by car to #ruhr and #zollverein for a revisit of @ruhrmuseum after 16 years. Its @oma.eu design is still holding up and the park keeps getting better. Cooled off with a warm yet refreshing dip in one of the six lakes outside Duisburg.

Third day further archi touring, to among others the @landesarchivnrw by @ortnerortner, the Salvator church just across the canal followed by St Matthäus community church and housing by Gottfried Böhm. A piece of poetry in concrete and brick, makes me a bit religious just being there.

Cologne/Köln was next up and we had a lovely Vietnamese dinner and watched Sweden lose big time against France (as expected). In Köln the MAKK @makkoeln offered two #architecture exhibitions with O M Ungers (one of my father’s favourites) and the photographer Hans Georg Esch @hgeschphotography . Very impressive show worth a visit but I think O M Ungers deserves a deeper dive.
@kolumba_artmuseum was next and this I have been looking forward to for almost two decades. My god. What a museum, what a garden, what a collection, what an experience, what an extraordinary piece of architecture @peterzumthorarchitecture

In memory of our dear friend and colleague Peter Nilsson who left us too soon two weeks ago. He struggled and kept his patience and optimism even as his health decreased and the cancer came back. I was lucky to have the chance to see him in his home just days before he succumbed to it.

Peter was the embodiment of generosity, curiosity and elegance. He wanted to make you feel welcome, accepted and invited. We first met just before heading off to our joint exchange semester at Tsinghua in Beijing where we ended up sharing an apartment outside the campus in Wudaokou. Peter was such a caring person for us all, including for his wife-to be, Helena, and had to cut his stay short to be with her during a difficult time.

After my years in China when we had moved back to Sweden, we were invited to join Peter and Helena for midsummers at their house in Skanör. The celebrations became a yearly gathering where kids and parents alike celebrated and played around while the summer night never wants to end. The memories of those midsummers as a form of ecstatic celebration of summer surrounded by friends and families are beyond compare.

I wish to celebrate your life, Peter, as I was given more time than you. You will always walk among us, always be loved and remembered.

The funeral service will be in Skanör’s kyrka on May 29th at 11 am. 💐 taken in Skanör by @mxgrthl

New work in collaboration with artist @d_a_v_i_d_s_v_e_n_s_s_o_n being installed in Karlstad. Three pavilion-like sculptures that together form the shape of a boat hull, placed along the new infrastructural bypass Vikenförbindelsen.

Looking forward to seeing the groundwork and lighting finished for the inauguration in June. More info coming soon.

Our new public artwork För-bindelse-akter is currently under construction for the infrastructural bypass Vikenförbindelsen in Karlstad, Sweden. It consists of three sculptural works placed from east to west at different locations along the bypass.
The artwork takes its point of departure in a boat hull – in the skeleton and shell that form the interface between boat and water. The three sculptures can together form a single continuous hull, as if they originate from one and the same vessel divided into architectural signs.

The intervention is anchored in Viken’s history through Wennberg’s Mechanical Workshop and its ship production from the early 1900s. We draw from Wennberg’s original drawings of a tugboat from 1916. The artwork connects to the vision’s three concepts: time, movement, and the changes of light.

The sculptures evoke portals and pavilions – spatial enclosures that embrace the human body and form small stages along the route. Their placement from east to west follows the sun’s movement from morning to evening, each piece aligning itself with the the rays of the sun at a certain time of the day. The title För-bindelse-akter links the ship’s bow (för) with its stern (akter), while simultaneously pointing to the connection (förbindelse) itself. Through all parts of the artwork, we want to activate the entire Vikenförbindelsen and contribute to a continuous urban environment.

The artwork is a collaboration between the artist David Svensson and the architect Max Gerthel for Karlstads kommun. Produced by Fremek, Dals Långed.

Went to #Karlshamn for the first time in decades, for the occasion of a conference on #crossinnovation in practice, organised by @regionskane and @viarregionblekinge, where many of the projects that they have been funding and organising over the past three years were presented. Having been part of one of the labs, What Matter_s 3.0 which was co-organised by @formdesigncenter, it was really interesting to revisit other projects, listen to panel discussions and share conclusions.

The #muqarnas washbasin by @mxgrthlstudio was presented in the exhibition, many thanks to @studiomycomet for setting it up, and to @frost_art_prod and @kornmacher and many more for running the majority of the projects, organising the conference.

Cross-innovation, in the sense of bringing cultural and creative actors into the processes of public policy and procurement, city development and scientific research, is more important than ever.

We were delighted to be invited by Xu Tiantian / DnA Design and Architecture to join the opening and lecture of her exhibition at @louisianamuseum this Thursday. Alongside Paris-based studio @ateliertsuyoshi_tanearchitects they have created two distinctly different architectural universes that both explore truly important issues of memory, collectiveness, local knowledge, resources and how to make the most with the least. Both practices work from a deep curiosity and empathy with the places and people they work for, and express it in architecture that elevate everyone. The new exhibition is really worth a visit, especially now that the excellent #Marisol retrospective is on. Really amazing work.

Also really glad to have met old friends @davidgarciadk and more recent ones @djernesandbell as well as new ones @sunnivaviking
