Shouting is seen as "strong." But crying is seen as "weak." From the playground to our 30s and 40s, we’re told to "man up" and swallow it. You think on the exterior everything is fine... until it’s eating away at you inside. Holding it in doesn't make you tough. It just breaks you in silence. 📲 Share this to a brother who is carrying heavy weight right now. Episode 4 drops on 2nd October. #MensMentalHealth #BoysDontCry #GenerationalSilence #EmotionalSuppression #SonsOfSilence #MentalHealthForMen by @my.spice.tin
I unapologetically disappeared for a while on Substack … but now I’ve found a story to write! The piece is on my bio. " The kitchen felt strangely dreamlike: airy, quiet and full of anticipation. We found ourselves speaking softly, almost as though we had entered a sacred place" This time last week, I joined forces with @asian.cooking.academy to teach Thai cuisine in Amsterdam 🇹🇭🇳🇱 The @keizerculinair cookery school was absolutely stunning: spacious and airy, yet intimate enough for everyone to feel comfortable, curious and ready to learn. The staff brought such warmth, kindness and genuine enthusiasm. You could immediately sense that this was a respected school, built by people deeply dedicated to the culinary world. I must admit, I was a little nervous working alongside such talented professionals, including an incredible @chefnormanmusa Malaysian chef and cookbook author, and an @my.spice.tin an Indian culinary consultant! There was so much preparation, plenty of hard work and a whopping 25,000 steps a day. Prior to the students arrival, the kitchen felt strangely dreamlike: airy, quiet and full of anticipation. We found ourselves speaking softly, almost as though we had entered a sacred place. Cutting, chopping, measuring and counting ingredients became a ritual. Each careful movement brought us closer to the moment when the empty kitchen would come alive. But seeing the students do such a fantastic job, preparing every dish from scratch, made every step worthwhile. It was the perfect place to teach, share food and tell the stories behind every dish. I couldn’t be prouder of what the students achieved. What a rewarding experience! Travelling to Amsterdam to learn Asian cooking may sound unexpected, but perhaps the most memorable food experiences begin somewhere you never imagined. ✨ #cookingclass #cookingclasses #thaifood #ThaiFood #cookeryclass @meerdaneitjes @bartandcoen @pciepiela13 @robynvangorsel @christinathekla by @my.spice.tin
Stop doing this just because your dad did. You can honor your father and still refuse to pass down the silence. ✅ Be more open ✅ Share your feelings ✅ Teach your kids it's good to talk Our fathers were great, amazing men. We can still make it better for our children. Send this to a son or a dad who needs to hear it, and save it for the days you'd rather stay silent. 🎙 Follow @SonsOfSilencePodcast #mensmentalhealth #fathersandsons #breakthesilence #sonsofsilence #mentalhealthawareness #emotionalwellbeing by @my.spice.tin

Strong men get lonely too. They just rarely say it. 💬 Many of us were taught to handle things alone. Don’t complain. Don’t ask for help. Stay “fine.” So friendships fade, work takes over, and one day there’s no one to call on a bad night. This World Mental Health Day, check in on the men in your life. Ask “how are you, really?” And then ask again…Then stay for the answer. You are not alone. 🤍 by @my.spice.tin
🐟🔥 QUICKFIRE MACKEREL CURRY 🔥🐟 Nearly forgot it was #NationalCurryWeek! 😅 So I raided the cupboard, grabbed whatever I could find, and here it is… Easy, tasty, dirt cheap, and on the table in about 15 mins. 🍛 You’ll need: 🧈 1 tbsp ghee (or oil) 🧅 ½ onion, diced 🧄 Garlic, ginger & chilli paste 🍅 ½ tin chopped tomatoes + a squeeze of tomato purée 🌶️ Turmeric, ground coriander, cumin & salt 🐟 1 tin mackerel (or sardines!) 🍋 Splash of vinegar or tamarind, plus lime or lemon to finish How: 1️⃣ Fry the onion in ghee until golden brown 2️⃣ Add the garlic, ginger and chilli paste and cook for 2 mins 3️⃣ Add the tomatoes, purée and spices, then cook for about 5 mins until it’s a thick masala 4️⃣ Fold in the fish and add a splash of vinegar or tamarind for tang, then cook for 2–3 mins 5️⃣ Finish with a squeeze of lime and fresh coriander (if you’ve got it… I didn’t 🙈) Served it up with the only thing left in the cupboard… some naans! 🫓 Rice, roti, naan or straight from the pan, all good. 😄 Proof you don’t need a fancy shop to make a cracking curry. "If your father walked through the door right now, what would you say to him?" "I don't know. I've never said a single word to him." This is the official teaser for Episode 3 of Sons of Silence (S.O.S.): "Father Figures". In this episode, Prem and Rak open up about their own fathers. It gets deep and emotional as they talk about how the father figures in our lives shape who we become. They also look at how silence passes quietly from one generation to the next and shapes us without us even realising. Can you see your father in you too? 📅 The full episode drops on 1st October. Subscribe and hit the bell so you don't miss it — link in bio. 🎧 Full episode on Spotify too. #SonsOfSilence #MensMentalHealth #GenerationalSilence #FatherFigures #BreakTheSilence #FeelingsWhatFeelings by @my.spice.tin
In the corporate world, everyone wants to look happy. Everyone wants to look like 'I'm in charge, I'm in control'. When nerves and pressure kick in, most people don't admit they're struggling. We laugh it off. We deflect. We hide behind the laugh because we're terrified of looking weak in front of our teams or bosses. That's the corporate mask. And it's exhausting. 👇 DO YOU RELATE TO THIS? Comment "WORK" below if you've ever had to fake being in control at work when you were drowning inside.
