Written by Light is a short film that explores the art and craft of photography, I wanted to look at the role light has on shaping our perception of reality. Through the lens of different photographers, we see how light can create, reveal, and transform moments of beauty, emotion, and meaning. In an era of artificial intelligence, light remains a natural and timeless element that connects us to ourselves and the world around us. This short is a tribute to photography and the photographers who capture the light of life.I was inspired by the collaboration between World Press Photo and Magnum Photos, who curated this year’s Magnum Square Print Event from their archives. I am honored to have my work be a part of this effort to celebrate photography in this ever-evolving age of AI. @worldpressphoto @magnumphotos. In light of the recent events in Gaza and Israel, Magnum Photos and World Press Photo will be donating a portion of their profits from the sale to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), in order to support humanitarian protection and assistance for victims of war and other situations of violence around the world.Written by Light, the latest Magnum Square Print Sale runs until midnight on Sunday, October 22. This is the first Magnum sale to be organized in partnership with the World Press Photo Foundation, with 31 @worldpressphoto-awarded photographers joining 76 Magnum photographers.The prints ship globally and are editioned by time.Outside of the week-long sale window, they will never be made available in this format again.Shields Strikes Back is an image that played a role in reshaping the sport of women’s boxing. I am proud to share this World Press Photo Award with you. It is a rare honor for an African/African American photographer like me. In fact, I was one of the few in history to ever receive this award. And in 2019,I made history again by becoming the only African/African American in the world to be nominated and win this prestigious award. Shields Strikes Back is a photo series that captures the challenges and triumphs of Claressa Shields, the first American woman to win an Olympic gold medal in boxing, and the first to do so twice. The series follows her professional boxing career, highlighting her fight against Hanna Gabriels, where she overcame a first-round knock-down to win by unanimous decision. The photos also shed light on the inequality and sexism that women face in the sport of boxing, such as pay disparity, lack of opportunities, and unfair regulations. The series has won several awards, including the Smithsonian Photo Contest, the International Photography Awards, and the World Press Photo Contest. by @myartmyrules

A time when images were frozen in black and white, moments captured through the lenses of Terrell Groggins’ camera constantly display his works of art as a photojournalist.“Whether it’s sports, whether it’s politics, whatever it is, I’m looking for the empathy and the human story,” he said.Groggins’ eyes see what others miss, and what he invasions as his gift to define an alternative description. One of his photos showed boxer Clarissa Shields’ powerful punch on Hanna Gabriels in 2018 at the Detroit Masonic Temple. It won four prestigious worldwide photography awards, including “The Guardian” top 50th moments in sports history.“Whether it’s a solo individual sport or a team sport, you know that the person put the work in, and you’re capturing a moment,” he said. “Like that moment is not going to come again ... You have to be ready to take the photo and you have to be prepared for that moment.”For several years, the 40-year-old has stayed ready, such a captured moment of his cousin on a hot summer day in Detroit, or times when tension and uncertainty separated a nation in transition.Still, the picture he wishes he could take never happened, and it reminds him that that opportunity missed is bittersweet.“My brother was murdered in Detroit. A perfect moment would be him being there, having a drink with my brother, cracking jokes, capturing him in his essence, the empathy that I have because ... family is the most thing. Those are the moments you don’t get back. So, I wish I had an archive of my brother when I took photography seriously. I wish I had that archive,” he said.“I think about all of the great holiday moments: the Fourth of July, Christmas. And I don’t have that for my creative mindset. I don’t have those moments. India.Arie built an entire body of work on the other frequency. Her debut single was called Video. 2001. A song about a woman deciding that her worth is not determined by how she looks on a screen, that she is not the video girl, that she does not need what the industry says a woman needs to matter. That was the opening statement of a thirty year career built on dignity, self-worth, and the interior life of Black women. This summer she said something about the scammer anthem and the machine turned its audience on her. She was called a hater. She was told it is just a song. Her answer is the most precise thing anyone has said about this in years. “Nothing is just anything. Everything has a frequency. “Music is pure frequency, and when you put sound together with rhythmic words you get inside the subconscious mind. She is not guessing. This image leads off the series of images curated by The Guardian For me being recognized by The @guardian as one of the 50 photographers that reshaped sport is an incredible honor. To have my work acknowledged by such a reputable publication is a testament to my passion and dedication to photography. The fact that my photography has become part of sports history is truly humbling. It's a surreal feeling to know that my images will be remembered for years to come and that they have made an impact on the way we view sports. I take pride in my ability to capture the emotion and drama of sports in my photographs. For me, it's not just about the athletes or the game itself, but about the human stories and emotions that lie behind them. To have The Guardian recognize this in my work has been a dream come true. My recognition by The Guardian will inspire other aspiring photographers, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, to pursue their passion and know that they can make a significant impact in sports journalism.Claressa Shields is an incredible athlete who has accomplished so much in her career. In 2012, she became the first American woman to win an Olympic gold medal in boxing, which was a groundbreaking achievement for women's boxing. She followed that up with another gold medal at the 2016 Olympics, making her the first American fighter, male or female, to win gold in successive Olympics. by @myartmyrules

Because Coronavirus spreads as fast as a rumor, that was why in the beginning, people thought it was a rumor. Humans love to find patterns and make sense of what we see. When you can’t find those patterns, it’s unsettling. As I was taking the Path To Newark over the holiday weekend I was reminiscing about 2020, and how life now is back to normal, but not normal by @myartmyrules
