These blocks are made from SMS (spent mushroom substrate) from the cultivation of Grey Oyster (white) and Shiitake (brown) at Mycotopia 🍄‍🟫 @mycotopia.marseille

The blocks are both lightweight and strong, they can sustain over 100kg on top of them. by @myceliumaterial

Shiitake chest front + back 🍄‍🟫

The mold was made from my own chest, the irregularities are human and living. Depending on how mycelium comes in contact with air, it grows differently — that's why the front is white and the back is brown. by @myceliumaterial

Yesterday was my last day at @mycotopia.marseille 💙 During the 8 months I wasn't trying to make a final product but to experiment as much as I could with this new material.

Its magical to work with non-human lives, makes you see the world differently. The most interesting thing was to experience the seasons changing and how that effected growth. I mainly tried to understand how we could use the farms waste (spent mushroom blocks) to make things. It demestified the challenge of working with mushrooms at scale to me.

Everything I made from composites to bioplastic to myco-leather was used to make food before it was used to make things. 100% biodegradable. No energy required. 🌎

Bowl made using @grown_bio substrate 🪽

I love the texture of Mycelium Skin, this bowl was grown for over 6 months which gives it this distinct outer skin
