[Trigger Warning] How do I even begin this?

It has taken me time—and more strength than I realized—to open up about this.

Today marks one year since I picked up my work phone and answered a call that changed my life forever.

A stranger on the other end called me by my childhood nickname, Poppy, and said words that still feel surreal:

“Your birth mother died. You’re adopted.”

In that moment, everything shattered.

The curtains fell.
The glass broke.
My reality cracked wide open.

I felt betrayed, hurt, lost, unwanted, unheard, and completely alone.

I smiled at work.
I laughed with friends.
And I cried when I was by myself.

For months, I woke up at 3 am almost every night, staring at the ceiling, replaying memories like an old VHS tape—trying to understand what was real, what wasn’t, and who I even was.

It has been one of the hardest years of my life—but it has also taught me so much about myself:

• I had to allow myself to feel: For once, I had to put my own feelings first—not everyone else’s. I had to let myself be angry. I had to let myself be sad. I had to scream, grieve, and sit with uncomfortable emotions. In doing that, I found freedom—the freedom to stop living by others’ expectations and start learning who I authentically am.

• I had to admit I needed help: My mental health suffered deeply, and there came a point where I had to be honest with myself: I was drowning. Seeking professional help wasn’t weakness—it was survival, and it became healing.

• I learned that forgiveness is powerful: Not because it excuses pain—but because it helps you heal from it. I was raised with love. I am incredibly blessed to have a real mother who chose me, stepped up for me, and continues to love me unconditionally. That truth deserves gratitude. And to move forward, I had to release the anger, the sadness, and the weight I was carrying.

What I know now is this:

This experience does not define me.
It is part of my story—but it is not who I am.

I am still me.
Still learning.
Still healing.
Still slowly finding my voice again.

Myles is still here—with a smile.

And honestly… this probably explains why I own 400+ vinyl records 🤣😁 by @mydex91

For the 2nd year during my Spring Break, I decided to have a history excursion with @uptownteacher ! This year we did a Hudson Valley Mansion Tour!

First we went went to the Clermont State Historical Site and I learned that Robert Livingston was being petty because George Washington didn't give him the job he wanted. 🤣

Second, we visited the
Staatsburgh State Historic Site where we witness what living during the Guilded Age was like! The Mills were living the good life!

Lastly, we visited the Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site. The Vanderbilts were doing too much to impress people. Did you know Anderson Cooper is a Vanderbilt? 🤣 by @mydex91
