How to rehydrate after weigh-in: the 24-hour refuel plan for fighters 🥤

You made weight. Now the refuel decides how you feel on fight night. The classic mistake happens in the first 30 minutes: a litre of plain water and a pizza.

What the ISSN 2025 position stand recommends after a day-before weigh-in:
→ Start with 300–500 mL of an oral rehydration solution (ORS)
→ Then about 1–1.5 L per hour, in portions every 30 minutes
→ Fast, low-fibre carbs, up to 60 g per hour
→ Replace about 150 % of the fluid you sweated off over the whole window
→ Add 20–25 g of protein to your carb-rich meals

Why sodium? Without it, much of the water you drink leaves as urine. More than 3 % dehydrated: use an ORS. Less than 3 %: a normal sports drink is enough.

What to eat first: white rice, potatoes, pasta, sourdough, pancakes, pretzels, dates and applesauce. Limit coffee, citrus, tomato, chocolate, garlic, onion and fatty, fried or spicy food in the first two hours.

Worked example: a 75 kg fighter who cut 3 kg needs about 4.5 L of fluid back, plus 300–525 g of carbs after a moderate cut.

What's your go-to meal after weigh-in? 👇

How to set your fight camp macros: calories, protein, carbs and fat, step by step 🧮

Most fighters guess their numbers or copy someone else's. Here's the method from the ISSN 2025 position stand on nutrition for combat sports, with a full worked example for a 75 kg fighter.

Step 1: estimate your maintenance calories. The Cunningham equation (500 + 22 × lean mass) gives about 1,900 kcal at rest for a 75 kg fighter at 15 % body fat, before training. Two weeks of logging food and morning weight tells you your real number.
Step 2: set a deficit that loses 0.5–1 kg per week. In a study of elite athletes, the slower group gained lean mass; the faster group didn't.
Step 3: protein at 1.6–2.2 g per kg, 20–40 g per meal.
Step 4: fat at 0.7–1.3 g per kg. Carbs get the rest, and never drop below 3–4 g per kg in camp.
Step 5: adjust by your weekly weight trend, not by one weigh-in.

Worked example: 75 kg on 2,400 kcal = 150 g protein, 68 g fat and 298 g carbs. On hard double-session days, push carbs to 5 g per kg. On rest days, drop to 3 g per kg.

How many grams of protein are you on right now? 👇

Muay Thai weight classes 2026: IFMA, WBC Muaythai and ONE Championship in kg and lb 🇹🇭

Muay Thai has no single weight class chart. Amateur Muay Thai under IFMA runs in whole kilos from 45 kg up to +91 kg. Pro Muay Thai under the WBC uses pounds, from 100 lb (women) up to heavyweight. ONE Championship has its own ladder from atomweight (52.2 kg) to heavyweight (120.2 kg).

The names don't line up either. A ONE featherweight fights at up to 70.3 kg, while a WBC featherweight is 57.2 kg. That's about 13 kg apart, so always check the kg limit, not the class name.

The weigh-in rules change how you should cut. IFMA weighs you on the morning of each fight day, with only hours to refuel. The WBC weighs in 24–30 hours before the bout, with safety checks at 30, 14 and 7 days. ONE weighs you 24–48 hours out, and you must pass a hydration test (urine specific gravity ≤1.025) before your weight counts.

In this post:
→ Every IFMA amateur class for men and women
→ WBC Muaythai pro divisions in lb and kg
→ ONE Championship weight classes
→ How each organisation weighs you in
→ Where 57, 63.5 and 70 kg fit in each ruleset

Which class do you fight at? Drop it below 👇

Water loading sounds backwards: drink more to weigh less. But your body is slower to dial down than you are.

Read the full protocol before you try it — and use it only for the last few percent.

The sauna is the most punishing way to lose weight — and the most misused.

Use it to fine-tune, never as the plan. And never alone.

Low carb all camp sounds disciplined. It just costs you on the mats.

Eat your carbs around training, and save the taper for fight week, where it actually belongs.

In a calorie deficit, protein is what keeps your muscle while the fat comes off.

Hit your number every day — not just on the good days. MyFightPrep sets your target from your weight and your camp.

The scale jumps after a salty dinner — and you think your camp has stalled.

It hasn't. Weigh in every morning and follow the trend, so your decisions are based on data, not on one bad day.

Before you sign up for a weight class: work it out backwards.

Fat loss takes weeks. Water weight is only the last few percent. If the numbers don't add up, the class is too low — not your discipline.

Most first weight cuts go wrong on the same five points. Which one have you been guilty of? 👇

Plan the cut from day one, and let your morning-weight trend make the calls — not fight-week panic.
