Your skin is not difficult. It is not unpredictable. It is not resistant to skincare.
It is responding logically to products that were not made for it.
Here is what most skincare brands do not say: the majority of global skincare is developed, tested, and optimised for lighter skin tones. Not out of malice — because that has historically been the default in the labs and markets that drove formulation decisions.
African skin has specific characteristics. Melanin-producing cells (melanocytes) are more active and more sensitive to stimulation. What causes slight redness on lighter skin can cause a lasting dark mark on darker skin. African skin also has different oil distribution, different hydration dynamics, and a different relationship with UV exposure. Not worse different.
