When you meet strangers who quickly become friends—and before you know it, feel like family—the world just seems like a better place. 🇺🇸🇨🇦❤️

Thank you, Dan (and Amy!), for treating our kid like your own and giving us the most incredible London experiences.

The words “thank you” don’t even begin to express our gratitude. You’ve given a whole new meaning to ‘Metallica family’ and we are forever grateful. ❤️
Cheers to 🇬🇧 🤘🪄… and our next adventure!

My father was the kind of parent every child dreams of—quiet in strength, endless in patience, and overflowing with love. He gave without ever asking, loved without condition, and lived his life devoted entirely to his family.
He was not only the most loving father, but a wonderful father-in-law and the most tender, devoted Dida to his grandchildren - who adored him as much as he adored them.
His legacy is one of humility, goodness, and quiet sacrifice.
I am so proud to be his daughter.
My handsome father passed away yesterday, 11 years to the day after my mother.
He was my everything and I am absolutely heartbroken. by @myinsidevoicepm

So, this is it, eh?

We all just go about our days? Work, home, scroll, eat, sleep—etc., etc.?

I know my anxiety is a little extra, but shouldn’t we be doing SOMETHING?

Is there a march I can join? A petition I can sign? A torch I can hold?

The world as we know it is starting to crumble—and yet, it all just feels too calm.

Even if you park the sheer scale of potential devastation (listing it might actually give me an aneurysm), can we talk about the basic, fundamental concepts of human decency that are being tossed aside like old shoes?

Loyalty.
Kindness.
Generosity.
Compassion.

What message are we sending to our kids if we don’t stand up for what is GOOD?

If ever there was a time to storm a castle—this is it.

(Insert clip of Billy Crystal: “Have fun storming the castle!” IYKYK.)

Oh, how I love my country. I’ve never appreciated the choices my immigrant parents made more than I do now. Vive le Canada🇨🇦 ! But this is bigger than us.

How many regular folks stood by while tyrants in history quietly dismantled democracy, chipped away at human rights, and destroyed families—until it was too late?

Are we there right now? I think we are.

All to say—I feel helpless. And I can’t be alone.

Other than square breathing, buying Canadian, and drinking my favorite European wines (don’t judge, I’m supporting our allies), what else can I do?

Ideas, links, and a little bit of hope welcome.

“If you’re reading this, I’m dead :)”

So begins the ‘letter’ I’ve written as a follow-up to my will.
It’s meant to bring some levity to what will undoubtedly (I hope!) be a
devastating moment for my loved ones. But on second thought, it might be a
little dark.

The ‘letter’ was written years ago, and has been regularly updated with new
instructions, loving notes and even a few tear stains.

Hubby and I recently updated our wills, which got me thinking about the
‘letter.’
Our wills cover the usual death stuff - money, who pulls the plug, etc, etc
-but the ‘letter’ is a more detailed document. Things not covered in a
traditional will (likely because I’m too embarrassed to mention them to a
lawyer).

Here’s a sampling of what’s included:
* Please close my casket. I don’t like people looking at me when I’m alive,
so there’s zero chance I’ll enjoy having people lean in for a close look
when I’m... well... NOT alive.
* Since the casket will be closed, don’t fuss about my wardrobe. A good bet
would be jeans and a blazer. My uniform in life should probably accompany me
to my next adventure.
* Feel free to use any photo saved in my phone library. Never, absolutely
NEVER take anything from the deleted file. lol
* No sad music. In fact, let my kids pick the playlist. I realize this will
ensure I’m memorialized to the greatest hits of Metallica and Rush-but hey,
better my family feels comforted than anyone else. Rock on! 🤘
* Feed people good food. Hosting is one of my favorite things, and I want my
loved ones to remember me by one last great meal.
* Pallbearers-at least a few women, please. My friends know I love platform
shoes... that would be a nice touch. Just sayin’.

I’m unabashedly aware of how bananas this all is, but I’m at peace with any
judgment coming my way. If just one person reads this and suggests something I may forgotten, it’ll have been worth the ridicule.

So, what am I missing, folks? Anyone else have a letter?

Off I go to find a new hiding place for the letter. There’s some pretty good mom-shame material in there and this post could trigger a hunt.

P.S. thank you @melrobbins and @alualoveslife for giving these thoughts life and laughter. ❤️ by @myinsidevoicepm

Well, it’s October—Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
But of course, you already knew that.

As the most ‘aware’ of the ‘awareness’ months, the start of October brings with it a massive pink marketing campaign. With everything from donuts to toilet paper, you can’t get through the day without a rosy reminder of the disease.

Unfortunately, for me, each of these daily transactions serves as an excruciating reminder of a very difficult time in my life. It also reignites my fear that my cancer will return. Yes, pink can do that.

While I understand (and truly appreciate) the intent of the campaign, pink month is painful for some of us.

Here’s the thing: this monumental educational initiative, designed to encourage women to self-examine and book their mammograms, is barely ‘moving the needle.’ We’re still losing moms, sisters, and friends to a disease that can be beaten with early detection.

So, what’s it going to take, ladies? How many pink ribbons and cute ‘boobie’ analogies will it take for you to book that appointment?

Imagine the relief you’ll feel when you get the ‘all clear.’ Imagine how grateful you’ll be if something that could have killed you is caught early.

Celebrate your good health and help me reclaim October for pumpkins and sweater weather? I’d also love for the colour pink to remind me of my 1970s @barbie camper. Good times. Great colour.

Help a sister out? Call your doctor and book that appointment today.
Please.
