When I was a little kid, baseball players were superheroes to me. And none was bigger to me than Mike Greenwell, my favorite Red Sox player of all time. On September 1, 1990, Mike hit an inside-the-park grand slam against the Yankees. The next day, I was in Fenway in my #39 jersey with my mom, as I was for so much of my childhood. During batting practice, after seeing me waiting for autographs wearing his number, he threw me the bat he used for that big hit the day before. I still have it, and it’s even more special now than it was then. Mike passed away this week from cancer at the too-young age of 62. Not meeting your heroes definitely didn’t apply when it came to Mike. Most probably don’t even know who he is, but 35 years later, I haven’t forgotten that moment and I am certain I never will. by @mykrandall

I hadn’t been back to the old country in years, and never before with Chloe. We hit some past favorites in Tuscany and found some new gems. A rainbow crossed the main piazza while we had dinner in Lucca, my grandmother’s hometown, on a day the weather was supposed to be horrible yet it never rained. I believe it is my fourth or fifth straight year of butchering holiday songs, and I can’t believe I haven’t yet covered these three particular tracks. They are all certainly in my Top 5-or-so Christmas songs, but I somehow have overlooked playing them up until now (probably because I can’t play them all that well). I’ll soon run out of favorites, but this year is not that year. Last year’s tune is up there, too.
